Overview:
This is a provisional appointment.
Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):
Investigates nuisances, sources of filth, and causes of sickness. Inspects and gives certifications of sanitary conditions and code standards, if any, on places requiring licenses from the Licensing Board of the City of Boston.
Responsibilities:
* Inspects and issues notices of violations to the proper persons, hold hearings, and enforces the State Sanitary Code relative to places of human habitation.
* Assists in health programs for neighborhood and community improvement.
* Submits reports of inspections and examinations, prepares evidence for the prosecution of violations of laws, rules and regulations relative to the environmental sanitation and places of human habitation.
* Performs lead determinations.
* Performs other related work as required.
Qualifications:
* One (1) year of experience in the inspectional procedures or closely related field is required.
* A degree in social work, public administration, or a related field is highly preferred.
* Considerable knowledge of Articles 1, 2, and 11, Title 5 of the Sanitary Code.
* Must be able to obtain and maintain a City of Boston Constable's License.
* Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
* Must have and maintain a valid Massachusetts driver's license; access to a vehicle is required.
* A multi-lingual candidate is also preferred.
