Job Summary:

Is the first point of contact for guests and plays a key role in creating a welcoming and organized dining experience at one of Glacier National Park's historic lodges. This position manages reservations, greets and seats guests, and ensures smooth flow in the dining room while supporting the service team. The Host/Hostess contributes to Xanterra's commitment to "Legendary Hospitality" by providing attentive, courteous, and professional service that reflects the lodge's history, setting and culture.  

The Details:
Position Type: Seasonal
Season Dates: May through September 2026 (exact dates vary by location)
Pay: $11.15/hr + tips
Schedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays)

Responsibilities:

Guest Reception & Service

* Greet guests warmly and professionally upon arrival, setting the tone for a positive dining experience
* Manage reservations and walk-in seating, ensuring efficient and fair table assignments
* Escort guests to their tables, provide menus, and introduce servers when appropriate
* Maintain a friendly and helpful demeanor while responding to guest inquiries or requests
* Communicate effectively with guests regarding wait times, seating availability, and dining policies

Dining Room Coordination

* Monitor dining room flow to ensure tables are ready and service runs smoothly
* Coordinate with servers, Server's Assistants, and management to maintain guest satisfaction
* Assist in managing table assignments, waitlists, and guest flow during peak periods using TOK hosting program
* Ensure host/hostess stand and surrounding areas are clean, organized, and welcoming

Team Support & Communication

* Work closely with servers, bussers, and management to support seamless front-of-house operations
* Relay guest feedback or special requests to appropriate staff in a timely manner
* Attend pre-shift meetings to stay informed on menu changes, specials and service standards

Professionalism & Standards

* Maintain a polished appearance and professional demeanor consistent with Xanterra's values
* Demonstrate reliability, punctuality and a positive, team-oriented attitude
* Uphold health, safety and sanitation standards in the host area and throughout the dining room

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

* Guest Service Orientation: Genuine desire to provide attentive, courteous and professional service to all guests
* Communication Skills: Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills; able to provide clear instructions and information to guests and staff
* Organization & Multitasking: Ability to manage reservations, seating and guest flow efficiently in a fast-paced environment
* Teamwork: Works collaboratively with servers, Server's Assistants and management to ensure smooth operations
* Problem Solving: Ability to respond to guest inquiries or issues with tact, professionalism and discretion
* Attention to Detail: Maintains a clean, organized and welcoming host area and dining room entrance
* Professionalism: Maintains a polished appearance, punctuality and positive demeanor consistent with Xanterra's values
* Adaptability: Willingness to work varied shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and flexibility to assist with other front-of-house tasks as needed.

Experience:

* Previous experience in a restaurant, hospitality, or customer service role preferred; fine or casual fine dining experience is a plus but not required.

Physical Requirements include:

* Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
* Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds. Frequent lifting and carrying of supplies, materials, and equipment throughout the day.
* Must be able to bend, stretch, and reach for extended periods of time.
* Working safely with required chemicals.
