				Overview:

The Laboratory Manager is responsible for operations, planning, organizing, maintaining, and controlling of laboratory functions within service, quality, financial guidelines and team management. The Laboratory Manager is a key figure in ensuring that timely and accurate clinical diagnostic information is provided to healthcare professionals so that patient care and customer service is of the highest quality.

Responsibilities:

Compliance: Practice reflects knowledge of HIPAA, OSHA, CAP, FDA, CLIA, and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.

Safety Assurance: Demonstrates the knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns.

Employee Recruitment, Retention, and Development: Interviews, selects, educates, schedules, develops, trains, disciplines, mentors, and evaluates employees.

Quality Management and Improvement: Establishes efficient, ongoing monitoring systems including capital, operating expenses, staffing, equipment, tests, procedures, policies, information systems; training and development programs ensuring compliance with regulatory/accreditation, adhering to LEAN principles, and meeting quality, safety, and fiscal requirements.

Marketing Research: Researches and develops new procedures/methods/programs/processes which enhance quality, service, and/or financial position, or contribute to sales and outreach activities.

Problem Solving and Resolution: Employs system thinking in decision making, directs resolution of complex problems and provides consultation and advice.

Communication: Implements and aids in the design of section organization between campuses in the UnityPoint System, interfacing with pathologists as is necessary and appropriate.  Clearly communicates to direct reports, changes, directions, and updates.

Other Functions : This position may be assigned a specific mission to address in an emergency situation to assist in disaster response and recovery as part of the UnityPoint Health - Des Moines Hospital Emergency Incident Command System (HEICS). Situations of a critical nature may require an individual to perform multiple tasks until additional support can be obtained.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION:

-  Associates degree in clinical laboratory science, medical technology or chemical, physical, or biological science required.

-  Bachelor's degree preferred.

EXERIENCE:

-  Three years clinical experience.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

-  HTL, MLT, MLS or CT certification required.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

-  Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.

-  Must be able to operate utilize laboratory, analytical, processing, and personal computer equipment.
