This is a Labor Service position.
Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):
Under the direction of the Fleet Manager and Superintendent, the Heavy Motor Equipment Repairperson is responsible for examining and locating mechanical defects in a variety of heavy and special motor equipment such as power shovels, cranes, wrecker trucks, heavy tractor trailers and other earth moving equipment.
Responsibilities:
* Disassembles, repairs or replaces work parts; fits new parts and adjusts engines, oil, water and fuel pumps, carburetors, fuel injectors, etc.
* Operates welding equipment to fabricate, rebuild and strengthen parts and pieces of equipment.
* Maintains records of time and materials used on each job.
* Adjusts and repairs air brakes, carburetors, hydraulic pumps, cylinder heads, valves and similar components of all types of heavy motor equipment.
* Overhauls engines, transmissions and ignition systems and replaces damaged parts.
* Answers road calls and makes repairs either at the road site or in the garage.
* Makes minor adjustments and repairs to all types of equipment.
* Must have ability to use wrecker truck for towing if necessary.
* Performs related work as required.
Employee is required to work any emergency as directed by the Commissioner of Parks or his/her designee.
Qualifications:
* Two (2) years of paid full-time experience in maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel driven equipment.
* Valid Massachusetts Commercial Driver's License required.
* Must be able to obtain a valid Hoisting License.
* Must have own tools.
* Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
Must be able to work any assigned shift.
