The Heavy Equipment Mechanic Lead/Inspector (HEM L/I) works under the guidance of the MST Supervisor. The HEM L/I will lead a team of technicians, clerks and inspectors throughout the daily maintenance operations of the DPW Equipment Repairs / Services which comprise of 90% commercial construction items, military items and small engine repairs. Also, be knowledgeable in computer operation (outlook, word, excel, power point) and use Automated Logistics Information System and ensure equipment records are maintain. Ensure customer service is maintain in excellent manner. Practice good housekeeping, property accountability control, and ensure safety is practice at all times. On some occasion you will inspect various types of non-tactical vehicles, heavy construction equipment and small engine repairs in order to perform troubleshooting actions and diagnose defects; examine parts for damage or excessive wear; repair or replace parts as required; service, repair, rebuild, and maintain the aforementioned types of equipment.

MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:
* Work under the guidance MST Supervisor.
* Supervise technicians, clerks and Inspectors.
* Computer operation (outlook, word, excel, Power point)
* Ensure all DPW Equipment are service / repair in the appropriate manner.
* Use Automated Logistics Information System and ensure equipment records are maintain.
* Practice good housekeeping, and property accountability is controlled.
* Safety /Risk assessment is to be adhered.
* Ensure all shop Environmental / hazardous related concerns are in compliance.
* Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
* The technician's work is generally conducted in a shop 40 % of the time and outdoors 60% of the time. However, duties may involve work in the environment with a potential exposure to extreme climatic condition. Work requires stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolong sitting and occasional working in cramped and awkward position. A normal work week is 40 hours (5 days a week), however due to COVID19 we are subject to shift. Must be willing to work additional hours when mission requires, which may require travel 10% of the year.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
* Must be able to climb up and down ladders and stairs, as well as bend, twist, and squad for prolonged periods.
* Must be able to use hands and arms. Must be able to pull, push and lift up to 50 pounds.
* Function in conditions of inclement weather, extreme heat and cold, high/low humidity, blowing sand and dust, and working in confined spaces and at heights.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:
* Education/Certifications: One year of experience may be substituted for one year of education, if a degree is required.
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* At least three (3) to six (6) years of experience in Automotive/ General Equipment maintenance or an equivalent.
* Applicant must furnish their own serviceable, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliant, tools, that are appropriate for their required duties.
* Must be able to successful pass a pre-employment drug screening.
* Must be able to pass a background check.
* Must have a valid REAL ID State Driver's License with no restrictions.
* Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI Tier 1 Public Trust.
* Must be able to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship, such as a birth certificate or a U.S. Passport.
* Must be able to maintain driving privileges aboard the Fort Bragg Installation.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
* Ability to lead a mobile maintenance team through the day-to-day logistical requirements in order to service, repair tactical, non-tactical, commercial and construction equipment.
* Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and cooling systems and components on various construction equipment, tracked vehicles, lawn equipment and other small engine systems in accordance with appropriate procedures and publications.
* Ability to analyze and interpret Manuals with relation to vehicle maintenance and repair.
* Ability to verify serviceability of equipment, determine the economic reparability of the item and determine the extent of maintenance effort and repair parts required to restore the item to the prescribed serviceable condition.
* Possess knowledge of safety and environmental issues as they related to vehicle maintenance.
SUPERVISORY/BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Able to react to change productively and handle essential tasks as assigned.
