Overview: Title: Head Teacher - GAC (Global Assessment Certificate) Location: Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China About Us We offer overseas studies preparation services for students in Mainland China, and Greater Asia. We specialize in preparation for the GAC exam. The program is the flagship international education program of ACT Inc. and the most widely recognized university preparation program in the world. The GAC program has been operating since 2002 and is now in over 13 countries. This course is focused on preparing students for tertiary education in a Western education system. It covers a wide range of subjects taught in English - from Academic English to Math and Science - and includes test preparation for the TOEFL, IELTS, and the ACT. This course also equips students with the skills that help them thrive when studying overseas, with focus on expository writing, collaborative projects, oral presentations, independent learning, etc. The GAC has a well-established curriculum. A full set of teaching materials, assignments, assessments, and teachers' notes are already developed and regularly updated. Our native English teachers focus on teaching, inspiring, guiding, leading, and counseling their students. About Shenyang City: Located in the center of Liaoning Province on the bank of the Hun River, Shenyang has a history that stretches back thousands of years. While modern Shenyang grows bigger by the day, glimpses into the past can still be found. Cultural and historical relics, from Neolithic ruins to Qing palaces, are still well preserved. Shenyang's Forbidden City, the Qing dynasty's first imperial palace, is a major tourist attraction that is worth a visit. Also still standing in the city are four Buddhist pagodas that represented the cardinal points of the city in the 17th century. Areas outside of the city also offer exciting things to do in your free time. In winter people flock to ski slopes and nearby hot springs. Summer is the perfect time to explore the surrounding countryside on your bike or climb mountains. Unlike bigger cities like Beijing and Shanghai, Shenyang is still a very affordable city to live in. A lower cost of living means that a teacher's salary goes further every month, leaving them free to save, spend on travel, or even send money back home. Shenyang is not a tourist trap, so foreigners here enjoy a rich and authentic Chinese experience, at the same time as being able to locate the creature comforts that they have at home. Responsibilities The Director of Studies assumes both a program leadership and teaching roles. Program & Teacher Management *Providing academic leadership -Work together with management in implementing systems, procedures and best practice -Lead and train teachers in the GAC curriculum and procedures; hold staff meetings -Supervise teacher-created resources *On-going teacher evaluations, including class observations *Timetabling of classes and teaching staff *Helping recruit and build the teaching team *Academic counselling of students Coordination with the GAC *Compliance with GAC Assessment and Academic Records requirements *Moderation of student assessment, including cross marking of student scripts *Liaising with and reporting to GAC's regional managers Working with external parties *Articulate the GAC program to prospective parents and students, if needed *Meeting with parents on student progress (together with a bilingual assistant) Responsibilities of Subject Teaching: *Delivering of teaching modules in accordance to the GAC syllabus *Preparing for classes and students for assessment *Marking assessment work with appropriate comments *Selecting a sample of 10% of each cohort's work in assessable activities for moderation purposes *Developing teacher-based resources and tests, if required *Preparing student reports *Meeting with parents on student progress (together with a bilingual assistant) Requirements *Relevant subject degrees.
