Overview:
This position is physically located in Balad, Iraq
Under the supervision of the Hazardous Waste Supervisor, the Hazardous Waste Specialist collects, stores, and manages Hazardous Waste to include classes 2 - 9, as well as fuel, Lead, Lithium and other misc. Hazardous Materials. The Hazardous Waste Specialist will post instructions, warnings, or other markings as necessary in all workspaces, to include MSDS, wherever appropriate. Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace. Will support the Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance teams by providing information and materials to these divisions as necessary to ensure compliance with local, national, and Army regulations and completes supporting documentation IAW the PWS. Will coordinate with COR for Hazardous Materials procurement, movement, and disposal of Hazardous Waste. Supports the development of SOPs to maintain a hazard free work environment. Performs Environmental Sampling/Testing. Handles Medical Waste, including Coordinating the disposal and recycling with established installation resources IAW 29 CFR 1910 Will handle hazardous materials classified as Regulated Medical Waste (RMW) Groups 1-9. And performs duties IAW MEDCOM Reg 40-35, MANAGEMENT OF REGULATED MEDICAL WASTE (RMW). Uses TB MED 593 for field waste management. Responsible for operation of a Regulated Medical Waste incinerator.

Qualifications:
* Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
* A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a U. S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator's License and host nation Driver's License, is required.
* A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a U.S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator's License and host nation Heavy Duty Driver's License.
* Experience:
* Two (2) to (5) years of relevant experience depending on education.
* Licenses/Certifications: HAZWOPER: 40-Hr, 24-Hr, and 8-Hr Refresher; HAZCOM (GHS); Upper Respiratory Protection; Confined Space; Lock Out/Tag Out (LO/TO); Respiratory Fit Testing; SCBA Training; Blood Pathogen Training; Certification of Medical Waste Incinerator Operators (ASME QMO-1) or equivalent; CDL or equivalent training to operate a motor vehicle IAW the requirements of 449 CFR parts 390-397
* OCN Qualifications/Experience Requirements:
* High school degree or equivalent
* Minimum three years technical experience
* Must be able to read/write and speak English.
* HAZWOPER: 40-Hr, 24-Hr, and 8-Hr Refresher; HAZCOM (GHS); Upper Respiratory Protection; Confined Space; Lock Out/Tag Out (LO/TO); Respiratory Fit Testing; SCBA Training; Blood Pathogen Training; Certification of Medical Waste Incinerator Operators (ASME QMO-1) or equivalent
* Skills:
* Excellent situational awareness and attention to detail.
* Working Conditions:
* Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
* Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, dry, dusty, desert environment with average temperatures of 30 degrees in the winter and 130 degrees in the summer months).
* Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.
* Physical Requirements:
* Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
* Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.
* Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
* Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
