EO/AA * This position performs work in the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning trade involving the installation, diagnosis, troubleshooting, programming and repair of electric, pneumatic, electronic, and computerized control systems. * The work involves reading and interpreting building blueprints and HVAC systems diagrams and specifications, isolating and identifying problems, and installing and calibrating controls and equipment according to specifications. * The incumbent will be the lead responder when Operating Room RH and temperature issues are reported. * All work is performed under the general supervision of the shop supervisor or lead, and in some instances, under the direction of an engineer or project coordinator. * This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities over subordinate workers, but may oversee the work of trades helpers, mechanics, or other skilled craft workers involved in specific projects. * Work is reviewed by observation of results and effective operation of HVAC system controls. * Job requirements, on occasion, require work beyond normal duty hours in support of emergency or high priority work. * This position is not responsible for providing direct patient care. Responsibilities: * Maintains, inspects, and repairs pneumatic and electronic, electric and DDC HVAC system controls. * Performs troubleshooting tasks, including problem diagnosis, identification, and isolation. Discusses system malfunctions with users to assist in isolation of problem. Determines appropriate action for problem resolution, and works to correct issues. * Uses various techniques to perform diagnostic duties and make repairs to systems. * Inspects systems to verify system compliance with plans and specifications and to detect malfunctions in system component parts. * Participates in commissioning and ownership transfer process of new construction projects to confirm appropriate system operation and BAS integration. * Studies building system design, as-built blueprints, HVAC systems diagrams, technical specifications, and system configurations. Tests component and system performance to determine the need for adjustment or repair; develops methods to resolve performance problems in the most efficient and cost effective manner. * Programs, designs, and modifies HVAC sub-systems of electronic building automation systems. * Consults with engineers and contractors as necessary regarding system operation and configuration. * Plans and schedules installation and repair operations for all assigned systems. * Orders appropriate materials, components, and equipment necessary for efficient system operation. * Remains available for scheduled emergency callback in the event of system failures. * Coordinates the work of trades workers assigned to support data collection and/or large project objectives. * Performs other related work, as required, in support of general maintenance activities. * Completes required after-hours on-call rotation. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities * Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above. * Demonstrated computer, organization, human relation, and effective communication skills. * Demonstrated considerable knowledge of the HVAC trade, including knowledge of automated control systems, and components. * Knowledge of the test and diagnostic equipment and instruments, and hand and power tools used in this work. * Ability to read and analyze building blueprints and HVAC systems diagrams and specifications. * Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, craftsmen, contractors, vendors, and system users orally and in writing. * Ability to maintain effective working relationships with system users, faculty and staff members, co-workers, and vendors. * Ability to stand, stoop, climb, bend, stretch, and walk as required to successfully install, inspect, and repair building automation systems. * Ability to operate standard motor vehicles, including Kubotas, trucks, and vans. Qualifications: QualificationsRequired * High school diploma, or the equivalency. * Four (4) years of experience in the trades, which should include some experience in HVAC, as a service or maintenance technician. * A minimum of two (2) years automated system controls-related experience, or equivalent formal training in automated systems controls operations. * Depending upon department of hire, a valid, State of Utah Driver's License may be required.
