Overview: This position is responsible for sorting, washing and drying linen utilizing proper infection control techniques. Position Reports To: Housekeeping Supervisor Responsibilities: * Segregates, sorts and weighs soiled linen to make it ready for reprocessing. * Loads washer-extractors with soiled linen and selects appropriate wash formulas and cycles for each type of textile. * Unloads washer-extractors and moves clean linen to make it ready for drying and folding. * Loads dryers with clean linen and selects appropriate cycles and times for each type of textile. * Unloads dryers and moves clean linen to make it ready for pressing and folding. * Accurately records soiled linen weights on washman logs. * Moves processed linen to clean linen storage to make it ready for delivery and distribution. * Monitors washer-extractors for proper functioning and wash cycle integrity; reports any equipment failures. * Monitors laundry chemical dispensers for proper functioning and ensures continuity of chemical flow, changing out drums as needed. * Ensures that all lint traps and trough screens are properly maintained. * Participates in the training of new employees. * Daily and project cleaning and other tasks as assigned by Supervisor. * Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Required: * Ability to read, understand and communicate in English sufficient to perform the duties of the position. * Must relate effectively with co-workers, physicians, staff, patients and the general public and function as part of a team. * Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. * Must be able to reason and think logically to solve problems. * Must be able to use judgment and make decisions. * Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of all patient information. * Must be able to function in a fast paced environment with deadlines. Desired: * High-school Diploma or equivalent (GED).
