Overview:
Responsible for all the duties involving the maintenance of the golf course and resort grounds; oversees the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment; and does related work as required.
Responsibilities:
* Direct in the planning and supervising of the maintenance of the golf course and resort grounds.
* Schedule work and supervises associates and the use of the equipment.
* Render professional advice, opinions, assistance and services to the Director of Golf and Corporate Director of Agronomy.
* Develop annual budgets for golf course maintenance operations and resort grounds.
* Handle all human resource functions of the department including interviewing applicants, payroll, training and disciplinary action.
* Oversees and participate in all activities undertaken by Assistant Superintendent and Resort Grounds Manager.
* Ensure that all aspects of golf course maintenance are operating within all federal, state and local guidelines and regulations.
* Develop and institute data-driven pesticide, fertilization, cultivation and irrigation programs.
* Develop and maintain good rapport with guests, members and neighbors to facilitate effective communication about sensitive subjects (constructions, pesticide usage, noise complaints, etc.).
* Maintain open line of communication with Golf Pro Shop about relevant information.
* Assist with snow removal as needed.
* Perfom other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's Degree in Agronomy is required or a related field from an accredited College or University.
* Five years of related experience and/or training.
* Must have working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, greens and bunkers; seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation systems, including wells, pumps and automatic controls.
* Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of equipment.
* Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
* Maintain effective employee and public relations.
* Must possess a valid driver's license.
* Requires North Carolina pesticide applicator license or the ability to obtain one within 90 days.
* Must be able to stand, walk, bend for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
* Spanish a plus.
