Overview:
* The GIS/GEO Base Manager is responsible for overseeing all geospatial information systems (GIS) and geographic information operations in support of base operations on Ascension Island. This role involves managing GIS databases, developing geospatial solutions, and ensuring accurate mapping and data analysis to support infrastructure, logistics, and environmental planning. The GIS/GEO Base Manager will work closely with engineers, planners, and operational teams to provide geospatial intelligence critical for mission success.
Responsibilities:
* Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee GIS operations, including database management, mapping, and spatial analysis.
* Develop and maintain geospatial data layers for infrastructure, environmental monitoring, and planning purposes.
* Ensure compliance with U.S. government and Department of Defense (DoD) standards for geospatial data.
* Provide technical expertise and support in GIS software applications and geospatial analysis.
* Collaborate with engineering, logistics, and environmental teams to support operational requirements.
* Manage GIS tools and systems to enhance decision-making and operational efficiency.
* Develop maps, charts, and geospatial reports to support mission planning and execution.
* Conduct training and support for personnel utilizing GIS tools and data.
* Maintain data security and integrity in compliance with government regulations.
* Identify opportunities for process improvement and technological advancements in GIS operations.
Qualifications:
* Minimum Qualifications
* Education:
* Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
* Certifications:
* Base Clearance
* Experience:
* 5+ years of experience in GIS management, geospatial analysis, or a related field.
* Proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or other relevant applications.
* Other Requirements:
* Strong knowledge of geospatial data standards, mapping principles, and remote sensing.
* Experience working with DoD or government contracts preferred.
* Skills and Technology Used:
* Strong mathematical and analytical skills
* Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping abilities
* Valid driver's license
* Willingness to work in varied weather conditions on a remote island.
* Ability to respond to emergency situations including after-hours calls.
