Responsibilities:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Correctional Food Service Trainer to lead culinary training programs for incarcerated individuals and correctional food service staff across Texas. This role is a cornerstone of our statewide rehabilitation platform, equipping inmates with essential culinary skills and life tools that support successful reentry into society, while also ensuring food service staff are trained to uphold operational excellence and consistency.
Exceptional teaching skills are essential, as the ideal candidate will be a natural educator with the ability to train diverse learners at varying skill levels - from individuals with no prior kitchen experience to advanced trainees preparing for industry-recognized certifications. This individual will also work closely with the Training and Development team to ensure all training content, delivery methods, and materials align with company standards and correctional facility guidelines.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities
* Instruction & Training Delivery
* Deliver engaging, hands-on culinary instruction to inmates and food service staff in correctional facilities.
* Tailor training approaches to accommodate different learning styles, literacy levels, and cultural backgrounds.
* Foster a supportive, structured learning environment that promotes growth, discipline, and confidence.
* Train and mentor correctional food service staff on culinary techniques, food safety, and operational procedures.
* Integrate soft skills, teamwork, and job readiness into culinary instruction.
* Collaborate with Training and Development team to produce high-quality training resources.
* Program Implementation & Evaluation
* Coordinate with facility leadership to schedule and implement training programs.
* Evaluate training effectiveness through assessments, feedback, and performance metrics.
* Experience with data tracking, reporting, and outcome measurement.
* Provide regular reports and recommendations for continuous improvement.
* Ability to manage multiple training sites and coordinate with facility staff and external partners.
* Collaboration & Compliance
* Collaborate closely with the Training and Development team to:
* Ensure all training materials and delivery methods are fully aligned with internal standards and meet all relevant regulatory requirements.
* Build and maintain strong, collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders, including clients, rehabilitation and program counselors, as well as external culinary and reentry organizations.
* Provide participants with comprehensive support, including personalized guidance and direct connections to reentry resources and employment opportunities.
* Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
* Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts, Education, Criminal Justice, or related field.
* Proven ability to teach and train individuals at varying skill levels.
* Skilled in conflict resolution, coaching, and mentoring.
* ServSafe Certification - Manager Instructor/Proctor (or ability to obtain within 30 days).
* Experience in instructional design and multimedia content creation.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to work collaboratively with correctional staff, reentry specialists, community partners, and internal teams.
* Ability to travel across Texas and work in secure correctional environments.
* Minimum 3 years of experience in culinary instruction, preferably in correctional or institutional settings.
* Knowledge of correctional facility protocols, food safety regulations, and workforce development standards.
* Ability to ensure all training activities comply with state and federal guidelines.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, learning management systems (LMS), and digital content creation tools.
* Ability to collaborate in the creation of training videos, manuals, and e-learning modules.
* Preferred bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency.
