Responsibilities:
The Firefighter/EMT position controls and extinguishes fires and responds to emergency situations where life, property, or the environment is at risk. Duties may include fire prevention, emergency medical service, hazardous material response, search and rescue, and disaster assistance.
The Firefighter position is located at the NASA/White Sands Test Facility Fire Department in Las Cruces, NM. We offer a competitive wage and excellent benefits. Work schedule is: 48 hours worked and 96 hours off. Hourly rates are based on a 2912 hour yearly schedule.

Firefighter EMT-Basic $18.47 $53,784.64
Firefighter EMT-Intermediate $18.97 $55,240.64
Firefighter EMT-Paramedic $19.47 $56,696.64
Additional Certification Pay per hour:
$ .15 HazMat Technician Certified
$ .15 Technical Rescue Team Technician Certified
Additional overtime may be available as needed.
Must pass Firefighter Selection Process:
* Written Test - 50 questions derived from IFTSA "Essentials of Firefighting" (4th Edition) book.
* Physical Ability Test
* Interview
* Reference Check(s)
* Physical/Medical Evaluation
* Secret Clearance Check
Qualifications:
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
* Provide Basic Life Support (or Advanced Life Support if a Paramedic) and safe, efficient transportation of ill or injured subjects to local receiving hospitals by ambulance.
* Respond to alarm and emergency situations which include, but are not limited to:structure fires, hazardous materials, technical rescue, and all other emergency situations that are pertinent to the position.
* Serve as a structural firefighter and HAZMAT responder on a scheduled rotation.
* Participate in Fire and Emergency Services activities including fire suppression, EMS, rescue, public assistance, fire investigation, fire prevention, pre-fire planning, Fire Company training, public education, clinical training, perform clean-up of the fire scene and routine maintenance of apparatus, equipment and facilities.
* Must be knowledgeable in auto extrication operations and victim/patient care until transfer to professional medical personnel/facility is accomplished.
* Supports emergency management functions as needed.
* Under general supervision, drive and operate pumper trucks, fire engines, and other related equipment.
* Drive and operate equipment to include: maneuvering, connecting hose lines, operating pump panels, determining, calculating and monitoring pressure; replacing nozzles/tips, performing hook ups, pumping foam, etc.
* Check equipment on the apparatus. Maintain apparatus and emergency equipment. Assist mechanics in the repair of apparatus and equipment as and when needed. Provide routine cleaning of vehicles and equipment.
* Set up rescue equipment. Work with crews to practice rescue operations. Operate and train to operate other apparatus used by the department. Assist in the training and orientation of others.
* Test or troubleshoot problems with facility, equipment, apparatus, and fire protection systems.
* Assist in performing fire inspections for pre-fire planning.
* Participate in department training programs to learn or upgrade skills in firefighting methods,equipment or services.
* Prepare and maintain reports and records of activities, incidents, inspections or other information.
* Perform other duties as required.
