The Emergency Vehicle Technician Inspector is responsible for the diagnosing and determining the extent of repairs required and what parts and the time required to repair the equipment that are unique to emergency vehicles. Must have the technological and electrical skills to repair and maintain the specialized equipment found in fire trucks and other emergency vehicles. Operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects. Dismantles and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools. Examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges. Replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions. Tests overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency. The Emergency Vehicle Technician Inspector prepares reports information papers and other required documents. Additional requirement for the Emergency Vehicle Technician Inspector should be experience in military/civilian light, medium and heavy wheeled/tracked and equipment power generation and ground support equipment.
Responsibilities:
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Diagnoses and repairs complex mechanical issues.
* Research for required repair parts.
* Interact with vendors to receive quote for repair parts.
* Performs preventative maintenance work.
* Prepares various types of fleet maintenance records and documentation.
* Assists in maintaining shop facilities and equipment.
* Provides customer support and quality assurance.
* Maintains service logs and records of fire truck apparatuses.
* Keeps tools equipment and work area clean organized and in good working condition.
* Uses Automated Logistics Information System to maintain equipment and document maintenance actions.
MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:
* Extensive use of basic shop equipment, diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, air tools, and lifting devices.
* Steel Toe shoes are required.
* Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in certain areas while work is being conducted.
* Such PPE includes, but is not limited to: Face Mask, head, foot, hand, vision and hearing protective devices.
* Periodic use of computer systems and multi-function devices (MFD).
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
* The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
* The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
* The worker is frequently in close quarters, crawl spaces, shafts, manholes, small enclosed rooms, small sewage and line pipes, and other areas that could cause claustrophobia.
* The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
* Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
* High School Diploma or equivalent
* Emergency Vehicle Technician LV I thru II, must meet the qualifications as defined in NFPA 1071 Standard for Emergency Vehicle Technician Professional Qualifications for EVT I, II and III.
* Automotive Services Excellence (ASE) T1 Thru T7 EVT Exam F1 - F6
* Valid Drivers License
* Must be able to obtain a NACI clearance.
Experience:
* Five - Eight (5-8) years' progressive professional experience on fire trucks, firefighting apparatus or heavy transport vehicles, within a large city fire department, must have progressed to EVT LV III.
Skills:
* Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
* Ability to work in a team-based, highly collaborative environment.
* Ability to work well under pressure and tight deadlines.
* Organizational skills, ability to prioritize, perform with a high degree of accuracy.
