Overview:
The Electronics Maintenance Technician II is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining electronic systems and equipment on Ascension Island. This role ensures the operational efficiency of various electronic systems, including communication, navigation, and surveillance equipment, while adhering to industry standards and safety regulations. This role supports classified and unclassified networks and ensures the functionality of critical communication assets in accordance with Air Force and DoD technical orders and cybersecurity standards.
Responsibilities:
* Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on electronic equipment and systems.
* Diagnose malfunctions using technical manuals, schematics, and testing equipment.
* Install, configure, and calibrate electronic components to ensure proper functionality.
* Maintain and update records of maintenance activities, repairs, and system upgrades.
* Ensure compliance with safety regulations and technical standards.
* Collaborate with engineers and other technical personnel to resolve complex system issues.
* Conduct preventive maintenance to minimize downtime and system failures.
* Provide technical support and training to personnel as needed.
* Maintain inventory of spare parts and request replacements as necessary.
* Stay updated with advancements in electronic systems and industry best practices.
* Install, maintain, and repair a variety of electronic communications equipment and systems, including switches, routers, encryption devices, video teleconferencing (VTC), PA systems, and alarm/notification systems.
* Perform Preventive Maintenance Inspections (PMIs) and corrective maintenance on telecommunications systems, data transport systems (e.g., SONET, ISDN, DWDM), and antennas in accordance with T.O. 00-33A-1001 and related directives.
* Troubleshoot and resolve faults across physical and logical layers of communication infrastructure (fiber optics, copper, radio, coaxial, and wireless).
* Install and configure secure and non-secure telephones, radio systems, secure voice (SVRO) devices, and related cryptographic equipment.
* Operate and maintain public address systems, land mobile radios (LMRs), base siren lines, fire alarms, and intrusion detection systems.
* Support infrastructure components, including battery backup systems, antenna towers, rectifiers, and communication huts.
* Maintain accurate documentation in CIPS, IMDS, and other systems of record for cable plant layouts, antenna systems, and alarm configurations.

Qualifications:
Education:
* High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree in electronics preferred.
Certifications:
* 3+ years of experience in electronic maintenance and repair.
* Technical training or certification in electronics, telecom systems, or related field.
* BICSI or OEM-specific certifications preferred.
Experience:
* Proficiency in reading technical diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
* Experience with electronic test equipment, troubleshooting tools, and diagnostic software.
* Minimum of three (3) years of experience in electronics maintenance, including diagnostics, repair, and PMIs of communications systems or related infrastructure.
* Proficient in troubleshooting tools, test equipment, RF transmission, digital/analog systems, and structured cabling standards (TIA/EIA).
Other Requirements:
* Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
* Experience with technical orders, CIPS/CVC, and inventory/logging systems (e.g., IMDS, AIMS).
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience supporting military or government communication networks and infrastructure.
* Familiarity with LMR, VoIP, antenna system maintenance, and emergency communications support.
* Prior knowledge of the Air Force Technical Order (TO) system and AF-specific policies (e.g., AFI 17-130, AFMAN 17-1203).
