Overview: EMT/AEMT/Paramedic (Ground Ambulance) UnityPoint Health - Allen Shift: PRN as needed; 12 HR Shifts 7A-7P, 7P-7A (mostly nights) As a member of our interdisciplinary team, the EMS professional provides expert prehospital care to patients and their families. This role requires strong patient‑service skills, the ability to perform effectively under pressure, and sound clinical judgment when making rapid decisions regarding patient health. The EMS professional delivers care within the State of Iowa Scope of Practice, consistent with their state certification level and in alignment with hospital policies and procedures. Responsibilities: * Assesses the needs of patients and families through the interpretation of written medical director protocols and creating an appropriate patient care plan within their scope of practice. * Adapts and adjusts the patient's care plan according to the patient's needs in the prehospital setting and may serve as primary attendant of patient while on scene and/or during transportation. * Prepared to physically intervene in potentially violent situations to provide patient care in accordance to departmental policies and procedures. * Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient's care. * Carries out high quality patient care while following the scope of practice set out by the State of Iowa Public Health Department Bureau of EMS and this ambulance service. * Ability to transport a patient or community member, in a safe manner through the utilization of an ambulance or secure car, potentially during adverse weather conditions. * Must be able to safety transport a patient by stretcher, stair-chair, and/or by vehicle (ambulance). * Represents the department at community events such as sporting event standbys, parades, and job fairs. * Ability to prepare reports and testify to their accuracy/events during criminal, civil, or regulatory investigation. * Documents daily, weekly, and monthly ambulance checks to ensure proper stock levels of equipment and supplies. * Prepares the ambulances by ensuring they are cleaned and in a state of readiness which includes appropriate decontamination when necessary. Qualifications: Education: * High school graduate or equivalent * Successful completion of EMS training from an approved training course Licensure/Certification: * Current Iowa certification as an EMT, Iowa Advanced-EMT, or EMT-PM level required * Valid Iowa driver's license for at least three years with an acceptable or clear rating according to the Motor Vehicle Record chart. (see below). * Must have a minimum of two years driving experience with no record of DUI, DWI, or similar alcohol or drug related offenses over the past five years. * No record of reckless driving, careless driving, speeding over 15 miles above the speed limit, fleeing or eluding a police officer, chemical test refusal, leaving the scene of an accident, driving after revocation or suspension, or passing a stopped school bus in the last five years.
