Job Summary:

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Coordinator is an entry level EHS position. The individual starting in this role is typically someone coming out of the trades or a new graduate just starting in the field. The EHS Coordinator may report to a project based EHS Manager or be placed on a smaller project by themselves. Provide safety support and technical assistance to project teams and be an excellent role model for Skanska and subcontractor personnel. Support project teams in identifying and providing solutions for construction and environmental hazards.

The EHS Coordinator is responsible for ensuring working conditions compliance with local and corporate occupational safety and health regulations and procedures. Responsibilities may include inspecting machinery, equipment, and other working conditions in project sites. Observes workers to determine use of prescribed and proper safety equipment, such as glasses, helmets, respirators, fall protection and clothing.

Responsibilities:

Duties and Responsibilities: 

* Directs and administers specific functions of the EHS program at the company or project level.
* Creates, evaluates, educates, and administers the EHS program for all levels of employees.
* Assist/conducts surveys, evaluations, inspections, and investigations of incidents and activities as directed by supervision.
* Gathers information and correlates data as directed.
* Able to perform field training when needed.
* Refines working knowledge of EHS programs by applying EHS procedures.
* Demonstrate knowledge of OSHA 1926 Construction Regulations, IIPP RMO safety manual. SHEMS, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, HAZWOPER regulation, 1910 and general industry regulations.
* Demonstrate mastery and high performance in SHEMS and risk assessments, health, and safety plans.
* General requirements respirator program, fall protection, cranes, and heavy equipment.
* Handling root cause analysis, OSHA 300 log/MSHA 7000-1 part 50, and internal accident investigative forms.  
* Develop and maintain project safety files.
* Direct and supervise the activities of subordinates when requested to do so.
* Participates in monitoring and controlling EHS standards.
* Prepares, maintains, and retrieves records, reports, or documents that may be required to meet corporate or regulatory requirements, including monitoring application of EHS standards.
* Promotes EHS awareness and fosters this awareness throughout the company, project, or office.
* Promotes the IFE Culture between clients, coworkers, and subcontractors.
* Supports all IFE Committee Initiatives on site; Other Duties: The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by employees assigned to this position. Education and Experience: 

Required Qualifications: 

* Bachelor's degree in construction management, safety management, engineering, or equivalent or relevant safety experience
* Strong written communication skills
* Proficiency with computer software including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
* 1+ years of experience in a role assigned to the identification of safety hazards and recommending appropriate controls

Preferred Qualifications: 

* OSHA 30 certification
* Construction experience
* Ability to learn new software programs
* Specific knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations related to safety and environmental issues
* Experience in a safety role that required communication with employees at all levels in a construction environment 

Competencies / Skills: 

Has limited understanding of:

* Recordkeeping: Receives, tracks, and maintains all EH&S related documentation (Incident reports, training records, monitoring and calibration records, SHEMS documentation, etc.)
* Building and Construction Knowledge: Applies building and construction knowledge to properly assess all EH&S risks and exposures during all phases of the project progression.

Travel Requirements: Less than 10%

Work Environment/Conditions: This job is performed both in the office and in the field on an active construction site. Field work requires experience and confidence working in and around heavy industrial equipment and systems, which includes average to loud noises, ability to traverse uneven grounds, and possible outdoor weather conditions. Vision requires the capacity for close and far vision, the ability to adjust focus, depth perception and peripheral vision. Activities and responsibilities require frequent sitting (often working on a computer), frequent driving, flying, walking, standing, light lifting, bending, and reaching. Due to computer usage, there may be repetitive motions of the hands and wrists.
