Join the executive leadership team at Xanterra in Yellowstone National Park as the Director of Retail. In this role you would be overseeing all retail operations across diverse and remote locations in Yellowstone and a retail distribution center in Gardiner, Montana. This role involves hands-on management of retail stores, distribution, and e-commerce activities, with a focus on sustainability, guest experience, and operational excellence. The Director will collaborate with corporate retail groups and local vendors to ensure strong product flow, high-quality standards, and alignment with our mission of Legendary Hospitality with a Softer Footprint. Additionally, the Director will foster a supportive work environment, prioritizing employee well-being and professional growth through continuous training and development opportunities. Ideal candidates will have a minimum of seven years of retail management experience in high-volume, multi-unit operations, strong financial and analytical skills, and a passion for customer service and sustainability.
The Details:
Position Type: Full-Time, Year-Round
Schedule: Typical schedule is 45 hours, 5 days/per week (will include weekends, evenings, and holidays)
Housing: May not be included - most employees find housing in Gardiner, MT, Emigrant, MT or Livingston, MT
Must Have:
* Minimum seven years of retail management experience in a high-volume, multi-unit operation that includes retail distribution
* Retail expereince in the tourism, hospitality, or related field required

Responsibilities:
* Hands-on daily management of Yellowstone National Park Lodges Retail stores, Retail Distribution Center, and online store activities.
* Lead, communicate and measurement of all KPI's with the store management team to achieving financial plan goals, with a focus on revenue, cost of sales, labor, OPEX, high guest service, and inventory control. Manages all development & documentation for direct reports.
* Execution of retail product placement strategies and planograms from an operational, inventory management and visual perspective.
* Work closely with the Assistant Retail Director, Retail Distribution Center Manager, and Store Management teams to ensure products are shipped to stores in timely manner to maintain full inventory, and ensuring product is fully represented on sales floor from stockrooms, safes and ancillary storage areas.
* Manage retail and e-commerce operations, including warehousing and distribution, with a focus on sustainability and guest experience while enhancing online presence and revenue.
* Work closely with store managers and staff to meet all contractual requirements of Concession Agreement (NPS), ensuring timely management of initiatives and reporting
* Work closely with Corporate Buying team ensuring product fits the Yellowstone setting and store/Area themes and meets the highest of quality standards.
* Write, evaluate, update, and implement Retail Department specific policies and procedures.
* Lead the Loss Prevention efforts for the Retail Department ensuring proper controls and metrics are in place for all operations Supervise annual inventory and enforce loss prevention measures.
* Collaborate with Corporate and local vendors to maintain inventory and promote regional products.
* Active on-site leadership and participation in Retail Capital projects working closely with Corporate Retail team as well as on site Engineering and NPS teams.
* Partner with Sustainability Director to align purchasing and waste management with sustainability goals. Ensure high-quality, environmentally responsible merchandise meets Xanterra and NPS standards.
* Oversee and works closely with department Trainer in developing and administering training classes including guest service, product knowledge, best business practices, safety and core values.
* Drive guest engagement by implementing special events, seasonal displays, seeking local products and the Inspired by Yellowstone program.
* Lead retail grocery, grab-n-go, and coffee operations.
* Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
* Minimum seven years of retail management experience in a high-volume, multi-unit operation.
* Bachelor's degree preferred in Business, Retail, Hospitality, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
* Strong financial and analytical skills.
* Excellent interpersonal skills to deal effectively with managers, staff, vendors, suppliers and National Park Service Concessions personnel
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, POS systems, payroll systems, and other hospitality software.
* Passion for customer service and sustainability.
* Ability to operate company vehicles under seasonal conditions and work in a high-altitude environment.
Physical Requirements include:
* Ability to sit, stand, walk, and lift 30-50 lbs.
* Comfortable working in a high-altitude environment.
* Ability to climb stairs and perform necessary job duties.
