Director of Nursing - Cardiac Procedural & Orthopedic Surgical Services at Presbyterian Medical Center & Charlotte Orthopedic Hospital
Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center (PMC), a 654-bed, award-winning, four-time Magnet(r)-designated tertiary care hospital in the heart of Charlotte, NC, is seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Nursing to lead two of our fastest-growing, high-impact service lines: cardiac procedural services and orthopedic surgical care within Charlotte Orthopedic Hospital, a department of Presbyterian Medical Center.
This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned nurse leader with deep expertise in procedural and/or surgical operations and a proven ability to build strong physician partnerships. The ideal candidate will drive clinical excellence, inspire high-performing teams, strengthen collaboration, and advance growth while delivering exceptional patient outcomes and memorable experiences in a dynamic, fast-paced, matrixed environment.
The Director of Nursing (DON) provides 24/7 operational and clinical leadership across a diverse and complex portfolio, including:
* Cardiac Catheterization Lab (3 labs)
* Electrophysiology Lab (3 labs)
* Non-Invasive Cardiology (stress testing, echocardiography, EKG)
* 10-bed Cardiac Procedure Pre/Post Unit
* 24-bed Orthopedic Specialty Care Unit
* 12-bed Orthopedic Surgery Overflow Unit
* 10-bed CARF-accredited Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit
The role has dual reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer and the President of Charlotte Orthopedic Hospital/VP of Operations at PMC, ensuring strong alignment, visibility, and support to advance best-in-class operations and continued growth and high reliability practices.
Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the development and execution of strategic and operational plans aligned with Novant Health's Cause.
* Drive clinical excellence, quality outcomes, patient safety, and regulatory compliance across all areas of responsibility.
* Partner with physician and administrative leaders to expand programs, optimize service delivery, and enhance patient access.
* Oversee financial performance, including productivity, resource utilization, and cost management.
* Champion initiatives that elevate the patient, family, and team member experience.
* Foster a high-performance culture focused on high reliability, accountability, engagement, and professional development.
* Lead performance improvement initiatives and operational innovation across service lines, throughout the region and across the system.
* Ensure efficient, effective use of human and material resources.
* Stay current on industry trends and best practices in cardiac and orthopedic care.
Qualifications:
* Education:
* 4 Year / Bachelor's Degree, required.
* Graduate Degree, preferred
* Experience:
* Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in nursing, required.
* Minimum 5 years of progressive nursing leadership experience (manager level or above), required.
* Minimum 2 years at the director level or above in a large, complex, high-volume healthcare setting, preferred.
* Strong background in procedural, surgical, cardiac, or orthopedic services, preferred.
* Licensure/Certification:
* Current North Carolina RN license or compact licensure, required.
* Specialty certification required or obtained within one year (NEA-BC, NE-BC, CENP, CV-BC, CNOR, ONC, or closely related and relevant certification).
