				Overview:

Responsible for developing and directing a community relations strategy that supports the mission, vision and strategic plan of Nationwide Children's Hospital including its ambulatory services sites and the main campus.  This includes leadership in the identification, design and evaluation of collaborative projects to improve community health status of children, establish and sustain positive relationships with constituent groups, increase community influence and sustains the Hospital's commitment to be a good neighbor and a conscientious corporate citizen.  

Internally, this position requires close coordination and communication with managers, clinicians and other staff throughout the implementation of this strategy. Externally, this position is required to work successfully with representatives from various communities, organizations, local government and constituencies and neighborhoods with respect to the diverse populations and cultures that the hospital serves.

Responsibilities:

* Develop and implement a vision for community relations that acknowledges Nationwide Children's Hospital responsibility and commitment to the community.
* Work in partnership with the staff and clinicians of Children's Hospital Inc. and community stakeholders to develop and execute a community relations strategy that addresses identified community health needs relative to health care, education, advocacy, and research.
*  Design and implement initiatives, programs, and events that help Nationwide Children's Hospital. achieve the goals and objectives outlined in the community relations strategy.
* Educate hospital staff regarding the community relations vision and strategy.
* Oversee hospital staff in implementing the community relations strategy to assure quality and coordination and communicate strategically important information to hospital leadership.
* Develop and maintain priorities and guidelines to direct the involvement of Nationwide Children's Hospital. in various community partnerships.
* Direct the development of collaborative agreements, working with the clinical and administrative leadership of the hospital and community stakeholders, to develop affiliation agreements and contracts
* Assess community health and service needs in coordination with the Planning and Business Development Department.
* Cultivate and maintain relationships with key health and social service agencies, businesses, government bodies, service clubs, faith-based organizations, and educational institutions in each community where Nationwide Children's Hospital is located (especially in the neighborhoods surrounding the main hospital campus) and update hospital leadership and staff as appropriate.
* Direct the Hospital's Good Neighbor Agreement with neighboring civic associations and neighborhood groups for the purpose of developing trust between Nationwide Children's and our neighbors and developing partnerships with GNA members. 
* Direct community benefit process on behalf of Nationwide Children's Hospital by strategically identifying community events to support via table purchases/sponsorships, coordinating invitation  process and maintaining annual records of support and attendance
*  Identify key indicators and institute tools for measuring the impact and effectiveness of the community relations strategy.
* Institute regular evaluations and internal audits to monitor the success of events, programs, and initiatives indicating the linkage to the achievement of community relations outcomes.
* Report annual progress of the community relations strategy to staff of Nationwide Children's Hospital. and community stakeholders.
* Direct the implementation and ongoing use of the Community Benefit Inventory Social Accountability Software, and preparation of Community Benefit Report.
* Participate in hospital committees and community-based committees and on boards and advisory groups as appropriate.
* Represent the hospital at community meetings. This position serves as a principal representative of the organization, maintaining and developing relationships with key external contacts and the community at large.
* Manage Community Relations budget and expenditures. 
* Perform other related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required

Education:

* Minimum of a Bachelor's degree with an advanced degree preferred.

Experience:

* Minimum of 8-10 years experience in a community or neighborhood-based setting in areas such as health care, social service, or community service with demonstrated increase in responsibility and leadership.

Skills:

* Demonstrated knowledge of child health care and community issues.
* Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications skills.
* Strong leadership qualities and experience.
* Ability to work effectively and independently with all levels of clinical and administrative leadership within the hospital and with community leaders on complex and confidential projects.
* Ability to conceptualize at the strategic level, including the design, management, and evaluation of projects.
* Experience in facilitating the development of collaborative projects with a variety of community stakeholders.

* Experience in grant or proposal writing.
