				Overview:

The Director of Child/Young Adult Life reports to the Asst Administrator of Special Populations, providing oversight of the integration of the interdisciplinary Team supporting the development of these Special Population Units & Programs. As such, the Director will support modeling the programs of care, provide follow-up regarding NYSDOH & Regulatory matters related to the Unit and develop and sustain relations with internal and external agencies and resources. The Director will play a lead role in developing and implementing Programming of Activities to integrate staff on all shifts, work with Department Heads/Directors to achieve such program development and incorporate age-appropriate orientation for all staff working with residents and families on these Units. 

Responsibilities:

* Follow-up on regulatory issues related to code compliance, rate setting program related issues and coordination of recruitment and staffing of the Units in concert with Directors of the various disciplines involved.
* Develop and implement Training & Orientation for all new Child and Young Adult Life staff.
* Oversee Behavioral Health Associates and behavioral training for program.
* Conduct in services to educate all staff on psychosocial, behavioral, and developmental needs of the residents to enhance staff competencies and understanding of population's needs.
* Maintain liaison with Public School system to ensure on-going sustainability of the on-site services from the NYC Public School system.
* Oversee payroll, daily operations and staff assignments, as well as staff scheduling.
* Directly educate, train, orient and supervise Recreation Therapy/Child Life Services for the Units
* Participate in Marketing & Outreach activities, if needed, to optimize & sustain Unit census
* Develop & Maintain Family Council activities in relation to the various Units/Programs
* Coordinate survey Preparatory activities with other members of the Management team to ensure the highest standards of practice & compliance on the Unit.
* In concert with the Asst. Administrator of Special Populations, develop & lead Unit staff integration activities including QAPI/QAA, Daily Huddle, etc.
* Responsible for the environment of Care & coordination with Facilities & Building Services to maintain the Units in accordance with facility and regulatory standards.
* All other duties as requested.

Qualifications:

Education:

* Master's Degree in Recreation Therapy, Music Therapy, Social Work or other IDT discipline, preferred.

Experience:

* The Director of Child Life & Young Adult Programs shall be a creative individual with a passion for service to these Special 
* The Director shall have training and experience related to Quality of Life activities in Pediatrics such as Recreation Therapy, Social work or a related Discipline on the Interdisciplinary Team ( IDT).
* The Director shall have at a minimum performed an internship or have had experience in a Pediatric/Young Adult Nursing Home setting for a minimum of 2 years.

Knowledge and Skills:

* Ability to make effective presentations and facilitate learning.
* Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with all levels of personnel.
* Demonstrated skills in team leadership, leading educational initiatives and project management.
* Strong organization skills, self-starting initiative, and high belief in the change process.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and using Audio/Visual equipment.
* Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently.
* Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and all other regulatory agencies.

Licensure and Certifications:

* Certification in Recreation Therapy, Child Life, or a Creative Arts Therapy, preferred.

Physical Requirements:

* Physically demanding, high-stress environment requiring prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day. 
* Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.
* Perform tasks that may involve exposure to the resident's blood/body fluids.
* Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents, if necessary.
* May be asked to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
