The Successful candidate can sit in either NC or SC
The successful candidate will be a strategic and creative writer who can deliver character-driven, emotionally engaging content tailored for different target audiences and organizational goals. This person will bring fresh eyes to every project and help to shape Novant Health's distinct healthcare-focused brand voice; yet will always be grounded in strategy. This person is an agile writer who can do both long- and short-form pieces for target audiences with varying levels of understanding of Novant Health's work in healthcare. She/he takes feedback constructively and views writing as a collaborative process. Person is an experienced interviewer, researcher, editor, and writer who can take rough, and often clinical content, and translate it into simple, consumer-focused messages. Person has strong judgment and team skills, and is a strong collaborator and problem solver who can make decisions quickly on the ground and work effectively with others. The successful candidate works well independently. The lead content strategist supports digital engagement across the Novant Health digital footprint.
Key Responsibilities:
Storytelling & Copywriting
* Translates a strategy brief into powerful copy and stories that drive a desired action
* Works to deepen understanding of the organization and its services within our target audiences
* Works with cross functional team to in the development process (stories & copy) for integrated digital communication and marketing campaigns and partners with other teams to package it for multiple channels
* Writes both short- and long-form pieces for Novant Health digital properties, email, and social media for the purposes of elevating our profile, increasing digital experience visitors, and advancing our mission.
* Translates complex issues into compelling and accessible content. Acts as Novant Health "in-house reporter" and "brand writer" to identify and develop compelling stories about Novant Health's beneficiaries, programs, staff, and the issues relating to our work
Content Gathering
* Identifies opportunities to gather content from marketers and medical professionals in support of our editorial content strategy. Effectively manages relationships with other content personnel.
* Delivers packaged content and stories for pre-determined marketing tactics.
Editing and Archiving
* Performs general editorial and writing tasks to keep Novant Health's website current, relevant, and engaging for key target audiences and to support key performance indicators for digital engagement
* Collaborates with marketers and communications teams to optimize and produce stories and content to enhance Novant Health's website for the purposes of increasing online visitors, boosting online engagement, and strengthening the brand
* Helping to create, manage, and update the Novant Health's content calendar in collaboration with key marketing, fundraising, and communications teams

Qualifications:
* BA/S or equivalent in related field required - English, journalism, or communications.
* 5+ years of professional writing and editorial experience, preferably for an international nonprofit.
* Diversified portfolio of writing samples required.
* Demonstrated track record of writing and producing digital and print content for a range of target audiences.
* Track record of using purposeful storytelling to drive organizational impact and business results.
* Superior written and verbal communications skills a must.
* Experience creating brand experiences and engaging messages that advance business goals into accessible compelling human stories for a general audience.
* Understands storytelling and marketing copywriting trends across varied media types.
* Experience with CMS tools. Familiarity with web publishing technologies (WordPress, AEM, Optimizely, Oracle, Sitecore, Drupal).
* Strong project management skills and attention to detail.
* Familiarity with health preferred.
* Team building skills.
* The awareness of nonprofit healthcare challenges, current issues and sources of technical support and partnerships preferred.
