Responsibilities:
The incumbent provides medical nutrition therapy to individual patients through assessment of nutrition status, recommendation for nutrition interventions and education of patients
* Acts as a liaison between patients and Nutrition Services. Acts as a resource for nutritional expertise to physicians and other health care professionals
* Provides functional guidance to Dietetic Technicians, Diet Assistants, Cooks and Food Service Workers
* Provides nutritional education to community members via outpatient programs and community events
* Demonstrates competency in patient care for neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients
* May have access to or be required to distribute drugs, needles or syringes from storage locations, (such as large stock supplies, automated dispensing units and other carts) to/within patient care areas or treatment carts as defined by hospital policy/procedure
* Substantial knowledge of current medical nutrition therapy, current principles of nutrition support, counseling techniques and teaching and presentation skills
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics or related field
Certified Nutrition Support Dietitian (certified by the American Society for Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition).
American Dietetic Association registration and membership. Dietitians hired as registration-eligible must become registered within one yeare of hire.
Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms, plan and present community education programs and efficient use of computer programs
Substantial knowledge of current medical nutrition therapy, current principles of nutrition support, counseling techniques and teaching and presentation skills
