Overview:
The Dental Hygienist provides dental care and promotes dental health by performing a variety of tasks under the supervision of a licensed dentist. They assess patient needs, clean teeth, take and develop dental x-rays, and educate patients on proper oral hygiene. They adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and protocols related to dental hygiene and maintain accurate patient records.
Responsibilities:
* Prepare treatment room and select materials and equipment for dental hygiene visits.
* Provide oral hygiene and postoperative instructions to patients and answer their questions.
* Maintain and sterilize dental instruments, document dental hygiene services and maintain confidentiality of patient information.
* Maintain a safe and clean working environment, adhere to infection-control policies and protocols, and conserve dental resources.
* Ensure proper functioning of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, and evaluating new equipment and techniques
Qualifications:
Education
* Graduate from an accredited Dental Hygienist school
Experience
* Two (2) years' experience
* Previous correctional/detention facility experience
* Five (5) years' experience
Licenses/Certifications
* Unrestricted current Dental Hygiene license, certification or registration in state of practice - must maintain all certifications, educational requirements, licensing, etc.
* Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS certification through AHA
* Current (and must maintain) lifesaving ACLS certification through AHA
