As a core member of the critical care transport team (fixed  wing,  rotor  wing,  ground)  the  Critical  Care  Transport  Paramedic practices with the critical care transport team members and collaborates with the team to facilitate  the  coordination of patient care in the transport  environment.  Through  a  combination  of  protocols  and  direct  medical oversight  ,  the  Critical  Care  Transport  Paramedic treats  patient and  family  responses  to  actual  or   potential health problems. The Critical Care Transport Paramedic is accountable to the patient, family, peers, and the YNHH-SkyHealth Manager. The Critical Care Transport Paramedic is expected to perform skills that far surpass the level of care provided by prehospital paramedics

Responsibilities:

* 1. Provides care utilizing the critical care protocols from the initial contact until patient care is relinquished to the accepting unit.
* 1.1 Critical Care Transport Paramedic utilizes the process of assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation while caring for our patients maintaining confidentiality and dignity. Critical Care Transport Paramedic provides safe, effective evidenced based care tailored to the individual needs of the patient and family. As a core member of the care delivery team, the Critical Care Transport Paramedic partners with the team to facilitate the coordination of patient care at the unit level utilizing the principles of patient/family centered care

* 6.1 Communicates in a calm professional manner with patients, families, colleagues, members of the care team, and other hospital personnel, accepts and elicits feedback, and works toward resolving problems and clarifying issues and concerns

Qualifications:

EDUCATION

EDUCATION (number of years and type required to perform the position duties):
Current certification as a Paramedic in the State of Connecticut required, National Registry preferred.  Must be in compliance with State Continuing Education requirements as outlined by Connecticut code and DHR regulations for Paramedics.
-Pediatric experience preferred
Competencies, as defined by the department, must be completed within six months of hire

EXPERIENCE

2 or more currently active years of experience as field Paramedic / Critical Care Paramedic or flight Paramedic with a recognized EMS pre hospital or Specialty Care Transport Provider

LICENSURE

National Registered EMT-P licensed in state.
FP-C or CCP-P preferred
Specialty certification: C-NPT is required within 18 months of hire.
Current certifications in BLS/CPR; ACLS; PALS, PHTLS

SPECIAL SKILLS

SPECIAL SKILLS:  Upon completion of orientation the Critical Care Transport Paramedic will be expected to:

Central venous catheter care
CPAP/BiPAP
Impella
Foley catheter maintenance
Supraglottic airway -- LMA/
IABP
Chest tube maintenance
Video-assisted intubation (C-Mac)ECMO
iSTAT -- CG4, GC8, ABG, Troponin
Mechanical ventilation
Transvenous pacing
Sigma pump infusion
A-line monitoring
Epicardial pacing
NG/OG tube maintenance
CVP monitoring
Ventriculostomy monitoring
Blood product administration
Swan Ganz care/monitoring
Administering medications authorized by the protocols
