Job Summary:

The Cost Accountant II plays a critical function in the control, valuation, and financial reporting of inventory - including raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), finished goods, and spare parts. The ideal candidate is detail-oreiented, analytical, and brings strong technical accounting knowledge, hands-on experience with SAP ERP and manufacturing systems, and leadership capabilities to support day-to-day operations and mentor junior staff. This position collaborates closely with the warehousing, supply chain, and accounts payable teams to ensure accurate and compliant inventory reporting. Additionally, the role supports production cost analysis, equipment utilization analysis, inventory cycle counts, and monthly financial close, ensuring accurate financial postings. 

Essential Duties:

* Manages and oversees the daily operations of inventory accounting, including raw materials, WIP, finished goods, and spare parts inventory.
* Coordinates COGS reviews, cycle counts, and inventory management initiatives.
* Collaborates with the Cost Accounting Supervisor to support month-end close processes, including inventory valuation adjustments, PPV analysis, and related journal entries postings.
* Maintains and monitors inventory sub-ledgers, and ensures timely GL reconciliations.
* Analyzes and explains variances between standard and actual costs, primarily focusing on Purchase Price Variance (PPV) and impacts related to FOB shipments.
* Partners with Supply Chain and Warehouse teams to ensure proper recording and control of inventory movements through SAP, MES, and Asset Management systems.
* Assists in the development, review, and maintenance of standard costs, BOM validations, and routing accuracy in SAP.
* Supports internal and external audit requirements related to inventory and cost accounting.
* Contributes to continuous improvement initiatives around inventory controls, cost transparency, and process automation.
* Upholds internal controls in compliance with company policy, JSOX and GAAP.
* Manages monthly reconciliations of vendor statements vs. PECNA raw material payables.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements:

To ensure the health and safety in the workplace and for the protection of our employee's, wearing PPE is a requirement for some roles at PENA and may include equipment such as a full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, bump cap, and a full hazmat suit that includes a respirator.

Qualifications:

Requirements - Required and/or Preferred

Education:

* Basic/Required: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics or equivalent relevant work experience

* Preferred: None 

Essential Qualifications:

* Minimum of 2 - 4+ years of work experience in Accounting and Finance; Experience in working with inventory is essential.
* Working knowledge of fundamental accounting principles and procedures.
*  Knowledge of Cost Accounting methodologies, standard costing, actual costing, etc.
* Experience and understanding of Inventory management best practices, is highly preferred.
* Confident in using Microsoft Office with strong Microsoft Excel skills.
* Knowledge of SAP, Oracle or another fully integrated ERP system is advantageous.
* Skilled in cross-functional collaboration and problem solving.
* Ability to tie supply chain activities and manufacturing process impacts to the general ledger.
* An aspiring leader, and an effective and clear communicator.
* Detailed oriented, highly analytical and ability to meet deadlines.
* Understanding and experience with month-end, and year-end accounting processes.
* Ability to reconcile general ledgers with sub-ledgers or other transactional information.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Cost Accounting experience is preffered but not essential.
* Experience developing and maintaining SAP standard costs is highly valued
* Highly organized and ability to balance multiple competing priorities.
* Ability to work with domestic and international teams.
* Resilient, self-motivated and able to work well under pressure.
