Overview: In collaboration with the Unit chief, coordinates and manages the clinical activities of the Acute Psychiatric Services; child and adult services. Responsibilities: * Responsible for investigating and resolving incidents and patient complaints, whether initiated by the patient, family members, the Office of Mental Health, or the Justice Center. * Provides clinical supervision to the inpatient Social Work staff. * Work in tandem with the Creative Art Therapy program staff to design and monitor group programming on the units. * Ensures the treatment program is comprehensive, responsive, and patient-centered. * Oversees the development and implementation of dynamic treatment plans that address the individual needs of each patient, promote recovery, and support progression to less restrictive levels of care. Ensures all patients receive competent, respectful, and dignified care throughout their treatment journey. * Provides input, support and guidance to the treatment team regarding discharge and after-care planning. * Collaborate with the treatment team, particularly the Social Work team-to manage complex patient dispositions. Facilitates interdisciplinary coordination to ensure appropriate discharge planning, continuity of care, and placement decisions that align with clinical recommendations and patient needs * Conducts routine environmental rounds to maintain a therapeutic, safe, and compliant milieu. Regularly inspects the physical environment to ensure safety standards, therapeutic integrity, and adherence to regulatory codes, promptly addressing any issues that may impact patient care or facility operations. * Coordinates the Quality Assurance and Utilization Review (UR) program for the service: Oversees the implementation of UR protocols, including the monthly review of 10 patient charts per unit, to ensure compliance with clinical standards, identify areas for improvement, and support optimal patient outcomes. * Participates in the interviewing process of clinical staff, the monitoring of compliance for regulatory agencies and the discipline of staff if needed. * Serves as a member of the Quality Assurance/Utilization Review Committee, and Incident Review Committee for the department; may be requested to serve on other departmental committees. * Ensure adequate clinical coverage on the unit. * Oversee the preparation of legal documents and communication with the lawyers. * Provides training and evaluates ongoing staff development needs. Delivers structured training sessions and continuously assesses staff competencies to identify opportunities for growth, ensuring the team remains informed, skilled, and aligned with best practices. * Supervises administrative staff within the Acute Psychiatric Service and ensures continuity of patient tracking. Provides oversight to administrative personnel. Ensure accurate census records are maintained and support efficient unit operations. * Performs other duties as required. Qualifications: Education: * Master's degree in Social Work, or Psychologist required. * Crisis Prevention Intervention and PMCS training preferred. Experience: * Minimum three (3) years job related experience, required. Knowledge and Skills: * Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. * Excellent verbal/written/communication skills. * Good interpersonal skills a must. * Excellent listening and coaching skills. * Familiarity with the operations of Hospital departments. * Understanding of Hospital policies and procedures. * Ability to multi-task while remaining calm and organized. Licenses, Certifications: * Current New York State license as Clinical Social Worker certification, or Psychologist preferred. Physical Requirements: * Involves standing, walking, sitting, lifting and talking. * May include some repetitive motions. * Perform other duties as required.
