Overview:
As Avalara's in-house counsel, you will support enterprise and strategic partnership transactions. You'll handle complex deals from intake through signature and help scale how our legal team supports the business. This is a high-visibility role with impact across enterprise sales and business development.
You will be an important partner to our growing enterprise sales team, and teams extending Avalara's reach through technology and other partnerships around the world. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys navigating complexity, building relationships, and keeping our goals in focus while providing clear legal advice You will report to the VP, Associate General Counsel. This is a remote position within the United States.

Responsibilities:
* You will lead complex commercial transactions. draft, negotiate, and close enterprise SaaS subscription agreements, partner and reseller deals, and more.
* You will partner with Sales, Product, and Finance to structure deals and resolve legal issues with creativity.
* You will improve and scale legal team operations and refine our templates, playbooks, and processes to increase speed and consistency in deal execution.
* You will balance risk and business urgency to offer sound, business-aligned legal advice.
* You will support strategic growth through involvement in international expansion, privacy compliance, and cross-border transactions.
Qualifications:
* J.D. from an accredited law school and active license to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
* 6-8+ years of experience, including substantial time supporting commercial deals at a SaaS or tech company.
* You have experience leading complex negotiations with enterprise clients or partners
* You have a practical mindset, with thoughtful judgment and a bias for action in fast-moving environments.

Pay Range Details
The base pay range(s) below are provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be
different in other locations.
Colorado $132,400-$218,400 (annually)
Washington $132,400-$241,400 (annually)
California $132,400-$259,300 (annually)
NYC $157,100-$259,300 (annually)
The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the state listed. The
successful candidate's actual salary/wage may be based on various factors, such as geographic
location, candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
This role is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance, depending on
the terms of the applicable plan and the employee's role.
