				Overview:

Greet all individuals and family members as they arrive to admission department.  Records all required social as well as financial and insurance information required by Hospital to complete the overall admission and billing process. 

Responsibilities:

* Conducts face-to-face interviews and completes all forms for admission with patients and/or relatives in the Admitting Office for Maternity, Newborn, Pre-Admission Testing, and Elective admissions. Follows up for missing signatures on forms that were not signed due to medical condition, in the Emergency Room. Mental Health admissions are excluded. During the interview or upon follow up, completes in detail, all required third-party reimbursement forms be it Blue Cross, Medicare, Medicaid, and/or other insurances according to Admitting Manual protocol and procedures.
* Obtains all necessary signatures for consents, permission, releases of information, and assignments of treatment during the interview process
* Notifies the insurance carrier when needed of the patient's admission either electronically or verbally.
* Collects all required deposits based upon the patient's ability to pay, and instructs patient and/or relatives on the established Hospital room rates and billing procedures upon inquiry.
* Assists in maintaining all filing systems within the Admitting Office. Scans documents collected into the electronic medical record as required. Offer assistance to  anyone who present themselves in the Admitting Office with problems or complaints.  When necessary, or if needed, connect the party to the more appropriate persons to assist in resolving their concern. 
* Demonstrates excellent communication skills when interacting with the patients, hospital staff, visitors, vendors, third party carriers, and regulatory parties.  
* Prepares and completes Birth an Death Certificates according to the established standards of the Department of Health.
* Escorts patient to floor after completion of the interview, when needed.
* Admissions which do not fall within the guidelines established with respect to basic third-party reimbursement formulas established by the Hospital in the opinion and judgment of the Admitting Interviewers must be referred to the immediate Supervisor or Credit Interviewers.
* Manage and monitor the Electronic Bed Board for proper patient placement on the patient care units.
* Reviews Elective procedure reservations for completeness, and verifies the insurance information presented to ensure reimbursement for services is achieved.
* Updates registrations with demographic or other identifying information presented before or during the admission as required. 
* Prepares required daily reports timely and efficiently.
* Performs Census reconciliations on each shift as required. 
* Attends all required hospital and departmental in-services, and training as required

Qualifications:

Education:

* High School or equivalent

Experience:

* No prior experience required, some preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

* Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
* Interviewing techniques.
* Typing skills (40 WPM minimum).
* Telephone techniques.
* Good appearance.
* Able to read and write in English, good vocabulary.
* Basic ability to fully utilize BHMC's electronic medical record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.

Physical Requirements:

* Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.  
* Position will be required to stoops, bends, lifts, carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
