Overview:
Merrick & Company is seeking motivated students currently enrolled in a high school, technical school, or community college drafting, design, or engineering program to join our paid Civil Designer Apprenticeship Program beginning Fall 2025 at our Denver, CO headquarters. This is a unique opportunity to work on impactful client projects involving natural areas, infrastructure, land development, water systems, sustainable energy, and more-while gaining hands-on experience and one-on-one mentorship from seasoned professionals. The apprenticeship is designed to last approximately 18 months to 2 years, providing a strong foundation in civil engineering design and CAD drafting.
Pay range for this position is $21.92 - $23.17 per hour. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
Responsibilities:
As an apprentice, you will:
* Support small design teams in creating exhibits, plans, and construction documents.
* Gain exposure to various engineering disciplines, including:
* Site Civil Design
* Water/Wastewater Systems
* Process Piping
* Erosion Control
* Grading and Drainage
* GIS Modeling
* Work with design tools such as Civil 3D, Revit, and Microsoft Office Suite.
* Receive direct mentorship from experienced designers and project leaders.

RESPONSIBILITIES
* Produce technical drawings and models using CAD software.
* Assist in the preparation of civil construction design plans.
* Create linework, annotations, legends, and notes based on input from senior designers.
* Revise existing drawings and complete redlines.
* Follow established CAD and project standards.
* Complete assignments with guidance and quality checks from a mentor or supervisor.
Qualifications:
* Minimum 0-2 years of experience.
* Must be pursuing an Associate Degree - Drafting/Design, Graphic Design or Technical College Certification or Equivalent Experience from high school CAD and engineering program.
