				Overview:

***This position will be physically located in The Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP*** 

Under the supervision of the Vessel Captain, the Chief Mate oversees crew welfare and safety and ensures all vessel operations are carried out IAW with orders from the Vessel Captain. The Chief Mate will act as second in command to the Vessel Captain.

Responsibilities:

This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company.

* Oversees crew's welfare and training in areas such as safety, firefighting, search and rescue.
* Acts as second in command and reports to the vessel captain.
* Uses tools such as ballasting and load balancing to optimize the ships performance for the type of environment expected to be encountered.
* Oversees the preventive maintenance program in conjunction with the Engineer or Engineman.
* Maintains vessel charts and maritime publications.
* Oversees the on and offloading of cargo and provisions.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

* Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education if the degree is required.
* High school diploma or equivalent.

* Certifications:
* U.S. Coast Guard 200T Mater license with all applicable STCW endorsements for international waters or a valid RMI level 5 license.
* Valid RADAR endorsement.
* Must have or be capable of applying for and receiving a Secret Clearance.

* Experience:
* Three (3) years of vessel experience

* Required skills: 
* Must also be able to communicate well as part of a small team and work cooperatively with other colleagues.
* Ability to handle multiple projects and details simultaneously.
* Results orientated with ability to plan and deliver against project deadlines.
* Resilient, self-motivated, and able to work well under pressure.
* Ability to deal with problems and implement effective solutions.
* Flexibility to work varying shifts and time schedules as needed.

* Skills:
* Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and storage requirements to meet compatibility of products based on hazard class is required.
* Strong interpersonal skills are required.
* Ability to exercise discretion and good judgement is required.
* Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy is required.
* Advance ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in written form is required.
* High-level organizational and planning skills, so that workflow is managed and accurate is required.
* Exercising trust, confidentiality, and responsibility are key components of the Chief Mate position.

* Working Conditions:
* Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
* Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, wet, tropical environment with average temperatures of 130 degrees in the summer months). Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.

* Physical Requirements:
* Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
* Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.
* Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
* Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
