Overview:
***This position will be physically located in The Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP***
Under the supervision of the Port Engineer, the Ships Chief Engineer performs required preventive maintenance and assists Marine Repair Shops in any major repairs or overhauls. The primary vessels assigned will be the Landing Craft Utility (LCU) and the Large Tug. Supervises, operates and maintains the assigned vessel's propulsion and auxiliary engineering systems; Determines parts, supplies, and material requirements for job accomplishment.; Supervises engineering watch members; Oversees the preventive maintenance program in conjunction with the Port Engineer and Marine Repair Shops; Accurately inputs O&M data, as well as, projects long range maintenance issues; Ensures the vessel maintains ABS Load-line and U.S. Army standards; Remains on standby/recall status to the vessel during dockside periods, as needed; Performs other duties and vessels as may be assigned.

Responsibilities:

* Supervises, operates, and maintains the engineering plant on the U.S. Army 2000 Class LCU or the Large Tug;
* Supervises, operates and maintains the assigned vessel's propulsion and auxiliary engineering systems
* Determines parts, supplies, and material requirements for job accomplishment.;
* Supervises engineering watch members; Oversees the preventive maintenance program in conjunction with the Port Engineer and Marine Repair Shops
* Accurately inputs O&M data, as well as, projects long range maintenance issues
* Performs work in port and at sea on board the assigned vessel or other vessels/duties assigned within the department
* Performs work using hand tools such as drills, torches and welding equipment typically required for water vessel repair
* Ensures the vessel maintains ABS Load-line and U.S. Army standards; Remains on standby/recall status to the vessel during dockside periods, as needed
* Participates in the vessels off site OCCM (On-Condition Cyclic Maintenance) Dry-docking on a three year basis
* May be required to fill in as needed on other vessels as an Engineer
* Works with other departments on marine issues and range mission requirements
* Takes decisive action to eliminate unsafe conditions.
* Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
* Education/Experience Requirements: Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education if the degree is required.
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Certifications:
* Coast Guard Designated Duty Engineer (DDE) 1000/750 kW, or current US Army 881A2 license
* Ability to pass a federal background check to obtain and hold a DoD Common Access Card (CAC)
* Experience:
* Four (4) years' experience sailing as a chief engineer; A combination of four years academy credit hours and academy sea project may be substituted for three (3) of the required four (4) years of sailing experience or a valid Coast Guard Designated Duty Engineer (DDE) 1000/750 kW, or current US Army 881A2 license ; Knowledge of common safety practices and protective equipment used on an ocean-going vessel
* Preferred skills:
* Experience with Cummins KTA engines; Prior Experience on Landing Crafts
* Skills:
* Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and storage requirements to meet compatibility of products based on hazard class is required.
* Strong interpersonal skills are required.
* Ability to exercise discretion and good judgement is required.
* Ability to prioritized responsibilities to handle a demanding workload is required.
* Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy is required.
* Advance ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in written form is required.
* Working Conditions:
* Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
* Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, wet, tropical environment with average temperatures of 130 degrees in the summer months).
* Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.
* The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
* Physical Requirements:
* Medium and up to Heavy work. Exerting up to 50 pounds to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
* Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.
* Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
* Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
