Responsibilities:
The Charge Nurse is a registered nurse who provides leadership and direction for a specific nursing unit or shift, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care. This role involves coordinating patient assignments, supervising and mentoring nursing staff, managing unit resources, and serving as a liaison between patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. The Charge Nurse is responsible for problem-solving, conflict resolution, and ensuring adherence to hospital policies and procedures, while also promoting a positive and collaborative work environment. Ultimately, the Charge Nurse plays a critical role in optimizing patient outcomes and maintaining efficient unit operations.
* Mentors others in areas such as competency, documentation, equipment use, plan of care, National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG), and participation in inservice education.
* Provides direct patient care as appropriate to meet the needs of the patients and department.
* Evaluates care given by staff.
* Coordinates patient flow on the unit to facilitate the provision of timely and effective care.
* Develops an effective plan of care, provides appropriate care, patient teaching and referral to other resources, evaluates and modifies the plan of care based on patient response.
Qualifications:
Minimum
* ADN Diploma or foreign equivalent
* Two years RN experience within applicable clinical specialty
* Active Arizona RN License
* American Heart Association-issued BLS
* American Heart Association-issued ACLS
* American Heart Association-issued PALS
Preferred
* BSN
* Charge Nurse experience
* Previous experience with personal computers
