Overview: Position provides medical, health and safety services to employees within established protocols, and administers immunizations when necessary. The Occupational Health Medical Assistant regularly performs a variety of additional duties including scheduling pre-employment/post -offer physicals including blood work, vision testing and drug screening; ordering and maintaining sufficient quantities of necessary medical supplies; and maintaining employee medical records. The Medical Assistant coordinates the completion of Worker's Compensation reports and performs special projects as assigned. This position covers both internal employee health as well as occupational health for external clients through the Work Well clinic. Responsibilities: Clinic Operations * Provides direct care, including treatment of occupational injuries and illnesses during occupational health clinics. * Communicates with occupational health employers to ensure compliance with protocols. * Resource for infection control, blood or body fluid exposure, tuberculosis, and other pathogens. * Running of special clinics set up for employee health needs, including annual flu shots and fit testing. * Maintains a positive relationship with members of administrative and management groups, medical staff, and co-workers. * Supports work within the budget guidelines. * Complies with state, local, and federal laws. * Is aware of hospital and department compliance regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of department or hospital administrative staff. * Assists with project plans including scheduling, expenses, personnel matters and other operational concerns for occupational health services. Basic UPH Performance Criteria * Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines. * Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance. * Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position. * Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare. * Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year. * Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance. Qualifications: * Current Certified Medical Assistant and AAMA certification * Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire.
