				Overview:

In conjunction with Good Shepherd Services (GSS) transfer high school staff, the Careeer and College Advisor, also known as the Economic Mobility Specialist (EMS), develops and implements successful post secondary access strategies and services, builds mastery of future focus competencies; and facilitates connection to post secondary pathways. The EMS also works in conjunction with the Transfer School staff to plan and implement retention activities for graduates.

Reports To:  Director, West Brooklyn Community High School

Location: 1053 41st St, Brooklyn, NY 11219

Hours:  35 Hours/Week; Non- Exempt

Salary: $50,000 - $55,000

MAJOR DUTIES: 

* Create Experiences that foster students' personal, academic, and professional exploration  
* Empower students with the skills and tools they need to succeed personally and professionally in life after high school 
* Expose students to careers and the pathways to achieve them via targetted partnerships 
* Engage students by meeting them where they are at, while introducing them to new experiences..  
* Collaborate with school leadership to design experiences for students that are embedded in the structures of the school 
* Collaborate with school leadership and targeted post secondary partners to design certification programs for students 
* Collaborate with the post secondary team through regular weekly meetings to assure to maximize CDOS as a credential for all students 
* Collaborate with post secondary team to ensure that each student creates a clear and attainable post graduate plan   
* Develops activities that enhance exploration of college as a post-secondary choice and option 
* Facilitate seminars and workshops that prepare students for the transition to college and career. 
* Arrange for robust college fairs, tours and retreats 
* Arrange speakers and panels related to college and career exploration 
* Facilitate sessions on financial aid and planning and assistance with FAFSA and scholarship applications, as well as applications to SEEK, EOP, HEOP and College Discovery programs 
* Provide assistance with college choice, exploration and completion of college applications in a timely manner 
* Provide workshops for parents on financial aid and the college choice and application process to inform and to attain their support for a college option 
* Regularly maintain and update alumni contact information for weekly outreach 
* Create and maintain media platform for alumni to inform and connect them to upcoming post secondary opportunities and events 
* Plan and implements regular meetings for alumnae in collaboration with school leadership 
* Conduct periodic surveys of school alumnae and prepare statistical reports 
* Maintains all required statistical and narrative documentation 
* Participates in staff training and meetings, including school retreats and professional development 
* Performs other duties as assigned 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

* Bachelor's degree in a related field and prior experience working with young adults required 
* Prior workshop/seminar development and implementation experience preferred; prior college and career counseling experience required 
* Bilingual English/Spanish required.
* Strong ability to create engaging and relevant activities for students and their families connected to college 
* Ability to work weekends, including overnight when necessary 
* Ability to travel to GSS program sites throughout Brooklyn 
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications 
* Must have excellent organizational, teamwork, verbal and written communication skills 
* Must have a commitment of work from a strength-based and/or youth development perspective
