Responsibilities:

* Observes patients cardiac telemetry oximetry and maintains records, documents in EMR, prints strips and reports any pertinent rhythm or rate changes especially life-threatening dysrhythmias and desaturations.
* Provides patient report to physicians, nurses, and the oncoming monitor technician.
* Notifies the nurse immediately of any lethal arrhythmias and documents findings in EMR.
* Exports and prints 12-lead ECGs per ED staff request.
* Performs cardiac device interrogations per order.
* Assumes responsibilities for the proper functioning of the computerized patient monitor system and reports malfunctions immediately to supervisor and the Medical Equipment Management Services.
* Assists in orientation of new staff or students and serve as a resource person and professional role model.
* Timely completion of mandatory initial and yearly competencies, including but not limited to cardiac rhythm interpretation, BLS, Philips system monitoring, safety training.
* Maintenance of all skill required for various aspects of job: telemetry monitoring, ECG assessment and exportation, cardiac device interrogation, and secretarial duties.
* Adheres to PHS policies, including but not limited with human resources, attendance, safety, and equipment.
* Adheres department specific policies, procedures and standard works.
*Maintains positive communication and relationship with peers and other healthcare team members.
* Participates in quality improvement activities.
* Promotes facilitates accurate unit communication.
* Courteously greets and directs customers.
* Answers communication devices and efficiently processes information.
* Effectively utilizes computer system to meet patient unit needs. Continually performs variety of tasks utilizing organizational and prioritizing skills to meet changing needs of patient unit.
* Communicates and processes necessary paperwork information for patient admissions, transfers and discharges.
* Maintains correct census and bed status report. Assembles patients  charts and organizes them daily by filing pertinent reports and adding blank forms as needed.
* Maintains and accounts for office supplies for the unit.
* Assists in orienting new personnel to secretarial duties.
* Performs other functions as required.

Qualifications:

* High School Diploma or GED
* 1 year monitor technician experience preferred.
* Specialized, short-term training in cardiac dysrhythmia interpretation with special emphasis on detection of life-threatening dysrhythmias preferred.
* 1 year experience as a unit secretary preferred.
* Take and pass Basic Arrhythmia Class within orientation period.
* Take and pass Basic Arrhythmia Test annually.
* Complete initial and annual competencies for cardiac device interrogations.
* Take and pass initial and annual competencies for Philips equipment operation and basic troubleshooting.
* SKILL-Ability to effectively interact with customers to understand their needs and explain data
* SKILL-Microsoft Office
* SKILL-Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in person and via telephone with members, employer groups, brokers, physicians, and physician office staff using strong dialogue and customer service competencies.
* SKILL-Written communication
* BLS Certification required at time of hire.
