The Kodiak Area Native Association was formed in 1966 as a 501 (C)(3) non-profit corporation providing health and social services for the Alaska Natives of the Koniag region. The Kodiak Area Native Association (KANA) service area includes the City of Kodiak and six Alaska Native villages: Akhiok, Karluk, Old Harbor, Ouzinkie, Port Lions, and Larsen Bay.
Services provided by KANA include an Ambulatory Medical Care and Dental Care, Pharmacy, Contract Health, Community Health Aide Program, Substance Abuse Prevention, Intervention/Outreach, Social Services, non-clinical community Mental Health, and Youth Prevention Projects. Other services provided by the organization include Women, Infant and Children (WIC) program, Vocational Rehabilitation, Early Childhood programs, Education, Employment and Training programs, Infant Learning Program, a full service Fitness Center and Tribal Operations/Environmental Health.

POSITION SUMMARY
Provide home based child and family development support services to designated enrolled families in accordance with program model guidelines and other applicable federal and state regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Provide home based personal visits with each designated enrolled family on an assigned case load and involve parents in educational activities to enhance their role as the primary educator in accordance with program guidelines.
Conduct recruitment activities within the community to attract families to participate in the Cama'i Program.
Administer required developmental and health screenings with each family; encourage family to receive and advocate for appropriate services for each child, including health care, early intervention and special education services as appropriate.
Arrange and facilitate regular group meetings for families; obtain feedback from families regarding group activity ideas and informational topics to encourage family participation.
Conduct quarterly Family Interest Survey with each enrolled family. Provide information to families as requested and with family consent, refers parents and child to social service agencies and facilities for additional services and financial assistance.
Support parents in implementing positive discipline techniques and information relating to developmentally appropriate practices with their own child/children and family.
Conduct community outreach and collaboration activities with local program partners and organizations to enhance series for children and families.
Responsible for establishing and maintaining accurate program files on site.
Prepare and submit accurate weekly attendance reports, monthly program narratives, and all other required paperwork to Cama'i Program Coordinator.
Collect data that will be collected on a quarterly basis by the program coordinator and program evaluator.
Determines parent's ability to comprehend and apply therapeutic and behavior modification techniques and parent's social and emotional needs to formulate teaching plan.
Develops individual teaching plan covering self-help, motor, social, cognitive, and language skills development for parents to implement in home.
Instruct parents individually or in groups in behavior modification, physical development, language development, and conceptual learning exercises and activities.
Follow KANA and Child Services program policies and procedures
Other duties as required as related to the position.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATED, LICENSEE, REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
At least eighteen (18) years of age. High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years supervised work experience with young children and/or parents.
Basic knowledge of child development issues and knowledge of community resources for children and families preferred.
Additional Requirements:
Must pass State of Alaska Barrier Crimes Unit background check for convictions of violence and child abuse and/or neglect.
Must have valid Driver's License for the past three consecutive years with acceptable driving record.
Must be able to provide own transportation to meet work schedule requirements.
Must provide a TB screening and basic physical exam within thirty (30) days of hire. Must complete and maintain CPR/First Aid Training certification at KANA's expense. Must be in good general health and free from communicable disease or illness.
Must obtain and maintain certification in the Parents as Teachers Curriculum at the earliest opportunity after date of hire at KANA's expense.
Demonstrated ability to provide judicious guidance and support to others.
Demonstrated effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills including ability to communicate in cross-cultural situations.
Must be able to work in general office environment, children's play room and family home.
Experience with diverse cultures preferred.
Must be able to maintain strict client confidentiality.
Must be able to respond quickly to children's needs and emergency situations.
Must be willing and able to conduct occasional evening or weekend work to accommodate parent's schedules for home visits and group activities.
Travel by small airplane is required.
