				Responsibilities:

GFT is seeking a CEI Transportation Technician III to join our Transportation Team in Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro, Wilmington or Asheville, NC!

What you'll be challenged to do:
Project Oversight & Leadership
* Serve as the lead field inspector on transportation construction projects, coordinating daily inspection activities and mentoring junior inspectors.

* Attend and participate in pre-construction meetings, progress meetings, issue resolution discussions, and other project-related meetings.

* Function as the primary liaison between the contractor, Resident Engineer, and DOT staff during active construction phases.

Field Inspections & Quality Assurance
* Perform on-site construction inspections, monitoring progress, safety compliance, and adherence to NCDOT Standard Specifications, Standard Drawings, Special Provisions, and project contracts.

* Act as a field decision-maker, resolving issues on-site and escalating concerns to the project engineer when necessary.

* Verify compliance with design plans, grading, drainage, utility relocation, paving, traffic control, and bridge or structural work.

Materials & Testing
* Perform and document on-site materials testing as required (e.g., soil compaction, concrete slump and air, asphalt density).

* Collect and review material received certifications from the contractor and maintain accurate records in accordance with NCDOT procedures.

* Ensure all materials conform to contract requirements before installation and maintain full traceability.

Documentation & Reporting
* Setup and maintain Pay Record Books and detailed daily Inspector's Daily Reports (IDRs) with progress quantities, contractor activity notes, weather conditions, and test results.

* Complete and coordinate pay applications in collaboration with the contractor and DOT representatives, ensuring accurate quantities and proper documentation.

* Track project milestones, document field decisions, and maintain logs of contractor performance.

Compliance & Safety
* Uphold all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including environmental and workplace safety requirements.

* Conform to all company policies and directives, and implement project-specific quality system tasks as outlined in the corporate Quality Manual.

* Monitor work zones and traffic control devices for safety and regulatory compliance.

Communication & Coordination
* Respond professionally and promptly to inquiries, complaints, and requests from the Resident Engineer, project managers, and agency personnel.
* Provide field leadership and guidance, demonstrating the ability to follow through independently while keeping the project team informed.
* Report issues proactively and provide recommended solutions based on construction knowledge and field observations.

Qualifications:

What you'll bring to our firm:

Education & Experience

* High School Diploma or GED required.

* Minimum of six (6) years of experience in the construction industry, preferably in transportation infrastructure, highway, or bridge inspection.

* Experience managing inspection documentation, pay records, and coordinating with DOT or equivalent agencies.

Certifications (Required or Must Obtain)
Ability to obtain and maintain required NCDOT certifications, including:

* ACI Concrete Field Testing - Grade I
* NCDOT QMS Asphalt / Concrete
* Nuclear Gauge Safety
* Work Zone Safety
* Erosion and Sediment Control

Working Conditions:

* Work in outdoor environment 95% of the time.
* Moderate noise level.
* Travel via automobile on daily basis.

Compensation:

The range for this position is salary range is $27.00 - $39.00. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
