				Overview:

Serves as the liaison between the patient, physician, specialist and diagnostic services. As a key individual in the ambulatory setting the Business Associate must be able to work on multiple tasks and establish priorities for the completion of daily tasks.

Responsibilities:

* Initiates, assembles and maintains charts (i.e., files, ambulatory approved chart forms, laboratory reports, medication administration records, prenatal outpatient history, radiology, etc.) for all patients in appropriate functional order.
* Provides patients with patient bill of rights, healthcare proxy and HIPPA Information (Privacy Policy) at time of registration.
* Contacts other departments for scheduling of specialties and procedures. Reschedules follow-up appointments as by physician at the end of visit. Also, obtains required Managed Care authorizations.
* Notifies patients of scheduled appointments and contacts/no-show patients for reappointments as directed.
* Ensures confidentiality of medical records. Further ensures, while registering, other patient information is not visible.
* Capacity to check computer system for patient data (correct spelling of name, address, date of birth, etc.), medical record numbers and verifies insurance information electronically with EMEVS, HDX and Managed Care plans.
* Collects payments and co-payments and prepares bank deposit and tally sheets for site coordinator.
* Financially screens patients for insurance or charity care.
* Closes system visits in a timely manner.
* Demonstrates working knowledge in basic computer skills, registration, scheduling, and closing visits.
* Answers phones and schedules patient appointments
* Receives appointment referral/request from outside agencies, schedules appointments and follows-up with referring agency and patient
* Covers any ambulatory area assigned included but not limited to lunch time coverage for other BAs

Qualifications:

Education:

* Associates' Degree required.
* Bachleors' Degree preferred.

Experience:

* Minimum one (1) year clerical experience preferred.
* Minimum one (1) year experience assisting Administrative staff, preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

* Knowledge of medical terminology
* Ability to work in surroundings with degree of dust, noise, etc. without undue discomfort.
* Ability to hear, talk, walk, stand, bend and stretch
* Ability to read, write and interpret documents
* Ability to sit for long periods of time at desk to perform job functions
* Ability to communicate effectively with patients and/or co-workers
* Other: Knowledge of all codes and demonstrate understanding

Physical Requirements:

* Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue. Incumbents are not called upon to perform or assist in emergency care or first aid.
