Responsibilities:
Billing Specialist
Work Location: Hybrid, Birmingham, AL
(must live within 60 miles of Birmingham, AL)
Hourly Pay: $17-$21 DOE
Work Schedule: Full-Time, M-F 8am-5pm Central
The Billing Specialist is responsible for the management of assigned accounts requiring further efforts by researching the client's and/or employee's files for billing information. The Billing Specialist provides services in accordance with company protocols and/or online medical direction.
Essential Functions/Duties:
* Gathers information necessary to bill the appropriate payer or make determination that an account is or is not collectable.
* Examines the patient record and/or research all avenues in order to gather information.
* Compares file to information in billing software program to assure correct information is entered.
* Collects data and runs reports for files.
* Monitors the client's and/or employee's files monthly.
* Manages assigned regional/local accounts.
* Follows billing process, follows accounts, and makes necessary contacts with the customer or employee to assure maximum reimbursement.
* Assists maintaining AA Billing and coordination with Rev Cycle and other assigned duties.
Required Experience/Education:
* High school diploma
* Working knowledge of health care billing procedures, including documentation requirements and industry standards
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access
* Strong numerical skills, with the ability to calculate figures, verify accuracy, and post entries to records
* Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare clear, organized reports
* Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and handle confidential information with discretion
Preferred Experience/Education:
* Associate's degree or higher in a relevant field
* Hands-on experience with FileMaker, including database navigation and basic workflow management
* Familiarity with the Deel platform, particularly for contractor or global workforce administration
* Experience processing and managing corporate expense reports, with strong attention to detail and accuracy
