We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Bereavement Counselor to provide therapeutic support to individuals, families, and groups experiencing grief and loss. This role functions autonomously in an outpatient hospice setting while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure patients and families receive comprehensive emotional and psychosocial support.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide individual, family, and group therapy services related to grief, bereavement, and loss
* Complete comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized treatment and follow-up care plans
* Implement therapeutic interventions and coordinate the overall treatment process
* Provide age-appropriate and culturally sensitive counseling services to diverse patient populations
* Manage an independent outpatient caseload and maintain a flexible self-directed schedule
* Coordinate referrals to higher levels of care or specialty services when clinically appropriate
* Collaborate with hospice and outpatient care teams to ensure continuity of care
* Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in compliance with organizational and regulatory standards
* Provide virtual counseling services as needed
* Travel between Rowan Hospice and Charlotte Hospice locations as necessary
Qualifications
* Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related behavioral health field required
* Current licensure or eligibility for licensure in North Carolina preferred
* Experience providing grief counseling, bereavement support, or mental health therapy preferred
* Strong assessment, therapeutic intervention, and communication skills
* Ability to work independently and manage a flexible PRN schedule
* Comfortable providing both in-person and virtual counseling services

Qualifications:
* Education: Master's Degree, required. Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling or related field with special emphasis in clinical counseling and assessment techniques; required.
* Experience: Minimum of one year of counseling experience, required.
* Licensure/Certification/Registration: Clinical license LCSW, LMFTA, or LPC or eligible at time of hire. Full licensure obtained within two years. Required.
* Additional Skills Required: Possesses demonstrated skills in assessment, group, and individual therapy. Ability to accurately assess for grief-related distress, including but not limited to depression and anxiety. Ability to provide clinical services to a wide range of cultures and levels of employment. Ability to keep accurate and appropriate records. Provide short term, individual, group and family counseling as needed. Ability to perform well in a work environment dependent upon mutual support, a high degree of independence, and a strong team concept. Skilled at presenting to groups and facilitating group interactions. Must be able to manage stress due to highly confidential nature of work.
