The Kodiak Area Native Association was formed in 1966 as a 501 (C)(3) non-profit corporation providing health and social services for the Alaska Natives of the Koniag region. The Kodiak Area Native Association (KANA) service area includes the City of Kodiak and six Alaska Native villages: Akhiok, Karluk, Old Harbor, Ouzinkie, Port Lions, and Larsen Bay.
Services provided by KANA include an Ambulatory Medical Care and Dental Care, Pharmacy, Contract Health, Community Health Aide Program, Substance Abuse Prevention, Intervention/Outreach, Social Services, non-clinical community Mental Health, and Youth Prevention Projects. Other services provided by the organization include Women, Infant and Children (WIC) program, Vocational Rehabilitation, Early Childhood programs, Education, Employment and Training programs, Infant Learning Program, a full service Fitness Center and Tribal Operations/Environmental Health.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position will receive training and support to provide prevention activities, early intervention, case management, aftercare and follow-up for individuals and families impacted by a variety of behavioral health (addiction/substance abuse and mental health) issues. With direction and support from the Clinical Supervisor, the position is responsible for providing access to and delivering behavioral health services, within a defined scope of practice, to village residents.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Organizes and assists with the Village Response Teams (VRT), for behavioral and other crisis intervention and assistance.
Provides client advocacy, referrals, client monitoring, case management and follow-up to clients. Works with other service providers, including assistance with application process to other services.
Organizes and/or assists other departments or organizations with alcohol/drug-free social activities for youth and adults to promote good health; assists with and participates in Health Fair, Spirit Camp and Family Recovery Camps as needed.
Provides community health education through regular classes/presentations in the schools and community; orders and distributes written health information materials to the public.
Provides home support to elderly and persons who have a known health problem or are at high risk of illness or disablement.
Prepares and submits required reports and activity sheets in accordance with grant / contracts established protocols. Maintains client charts as required by supervisor.
Attends all required staff and supervision meetings, as well as training required for all the Rural Human Services System projects.
Develops traditional counseling skills and services for individuals and families in the areas of mental health, substance abuse, and prevention specific to the needs of the village.
Upon graduation from RHS project training and with supervisory recommendation, provides specialized assessment, counseling and prevention services for individuals and families in the areas of alcohol/substance abuse, and mental health using a combination of Western and traditional methods.
Assists community members by making referrals to other service providers, and assisting with required paperwork.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum High School Graduate or equivalent. The selected individual will be provided the required BHA training that must be completed within two years; Obtaining and maintaining certification as a Chemical Dependency Counselor Level I required (training provided by KANA); Must be able to work in adverse circumstances, travel to various areas of the Island and State for routine, as well as special program activities/projects and training. Ability to travel to town by small plane or boat.
