Responsibilities:

* Assist the Track Superintendent to ensure the operating excellence of racetrack surface.
* Prioritize projects and tasks needed to care for and maintain the racing surface.
* Document protocols to maintain external and internal compliance.
* Planning, proposing and implementing innovative methods to improve operations, minimize costs and maximize use of materials and assets.
* Uphold standards and practices that support the comprehensive safety and integrity of horseracing.
* Assist in the procurement, operation, and maintenance of all equipment/tools/materials necessary to prepare surface for training and racing.
* Assist in leading the team members in the Track Maintenance department to ensure smooth operations and the goals of the department are achieved.
* Complying with company, local, state and federal regulations.
* Oversee the barn area for maintenance issues, assist in repairs as needed and assist in directing team members to perform repairs and maintenance.
* Assist the Track Superintendent in department operations including managing the team, operations, and payroll.

Qualifications:

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. * Must have thorough knowledge of Thoroughbred horses.
* Must be able to operate and maintain equipment tractors, loaders, graders, etc.
* Must have knowledge of OSHA required standards and safety requirements.
* Other duties, as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma; Must have 1-3 years previous track maintenance experience or equivalent combination of education and experience which would provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to read and communicate verbally in English. Written communication skills in in English may also be required.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using units of America money and weight measurement, volume and distance. Possess ability to operate an adding machine and have basic computer skills.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: Employee must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state and local regulations.

* Must be able to work in various weather conditions.
* The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
