Job Summary:
The Assistant Quality Manager supports the Quality Manager, Field Managers, and Project Managers by providing technical, administrative, and field assistance focused on ensuring construction quality and compliance. Working under direct supervision, this role performs routine daily tasks including material identification, field inspections, document control, and communication of quality-related information. The Assistant Quality Manager reads and interprets construction plans, specifications, and project changes to help verify that materials, equipment, and installations meet contractual standards. They assist with inspections, testing coordination, meeting documentation, and maintaining quality tracking tools within project management platforms like Procore. This position requires a flexible team player with strong communication skills, attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and a proactive approach to supporting field operations while upholding Skanska's commitment to safety and quality. Key responsibilities include material receipt inspections, assisting in field quality checks at various construction stages, managing RFIs and submittals related to quality, maintaining daily logs and document control functions, and fostering positive relationships with internal teams and external clients. The Assistant Quality Manager typically holds a bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Engineering or equivalent experience with 5+ years of relevant construction project experience. Preferred qualifications include experience in commercial building projects within specific market sectors, proficiency with Procore and Bluebeam software, strong organizational skills, OSHA certification, and the ability to work independently or collaboratively in a dynamic environment .
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Read and comprehend construction plans and drawings and technical specifications. Grow basic ability into competent ability to discern acceptance criteria from the approved construction documents to help ensure that construction materials, equipment, and field installations are compliant with the contractual requirements
* Attend required meetings and interface with project team members and compose and distribute meeting minutes for Pre-Installation Meetings in Procore
* Assist in the creation and management of job-specific Quality tools for tracking Skanska and 3rd party inspections
* Review RFIs and submittals to maintain continuous knowledge of project changes and approved documents
* Performs material receipt inspections to verify delivered materials are in conformance with approved construction documents and issues additional notification to subcontractors and project team when non-conforming materials are encountered
* Assists Quality Manager with field inspections of construction works such as 1st in place inspections, necessary in-progress inspections, and at completion to verify compliance with the approved construction documents
* Demonstrate commitment to an Injury-Free Environment through own actions and contributes to enforcement of safety program on projects.
* Maintain good relationships with internal and external clients, including representatives of Owner and Architect/Engineer and subcontractors
* Help draft RFIs for quality and constructability related issues
* Assist in maintaining the Quality section of the daily log as appropriate for the job
* Perform document control functions as needed
* Assist in the coordination and/or performance of on-site and off-site testing and inspection efforts

Education and Experience:
Required Qualifications:
* 5+ Years experience working within a project team contributing to coordination, development, and/or tracking of various project needs such as RFIs, submittals, document control, project reporting, inspections, and close out activities.
* 5+ Years experience reading and understanding construction plans and drawings and the technical specifications associated with drawings.
* 5+ Years of experience in the construction of Commercial building projects (internship experience may be acceptable on a case-by-case basis) with a general contractor/trade contractor/construction management/inspections firm.
* Bachelor's Degree - Construction Management, Engineering, or similar; or 8 years equivalent experience plus a minimum of 5 years prior relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Commercial building experience in specific market segment job posting is for (i.e. healthcare, education, aviation, tech, etc.)
* Working knowledge of Procore & Bluebeam or other drafting software
* Ability to track and inspect delivered materials
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience utilizing email, phone, and Microsoft office platforms along with strong math and project financial accounting skills
* Good problem-solving skills
* Detail oriented with a focus on delivering high quality results
* Functions effectively as an individual or part of a team
* Excellent time management and organizational skills
* OSHA 10 or 30 certification
