Overview:

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking an Assistant Controller who will hold a key leadership role within the Accounting department, working closely with the Controller to oversee and enhance the organization's financial operations. This position is responsible for managing core accounting functions, including general ledger (GL), accounts receivable (AR), accounts payable (AP), and internal controls.
We're looking for a highly versatile accounting professional who excels at both the details and the big picture. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with hands-on expertise, strong analytical capabilities, and a proven track record of driving efficiencies through systems, processes, and team development. Prior success in the Architectural, Engineering, and Construction (A/E/C) industry is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities:
* Lead and manage a geographically dispersed accounting team, ensuring timely and accurate execution of accounting operations in compliance with US GAAP.
* Own and drive the monthly close process, ensuring consolidated financial statements are completed within five business days.
* Oversee and review balance sheet reconciliations alongside the Controller to ensure integrity and completeness.
* Approve journal entries and ensure compliance with accounting policies and adequate supporting documentation.
* Supervise AR and AP functions, promoting efficient cash collection and vendor payment processes.
* Manage and reconcile intercompany transactions between subsidiaries and the parent company.
* Hire, train, mentor, and cross-train accounting staff, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
* Analyze expense accounts, proactively identifying trends, discrepancies, and areas for cost optimization.
* Oversee payroll account reconciliations and partner with the Payroll Manager to resolve discrepancies using the ADP General Ledger Interface.
* Review post-payroll financial reports for accuracy and completeness.
* Act as a key liaison for financial statement and overhead audits, as well as with state and local tax authorities.
* Collaborate across departments to address and resolve accounting-related inquiries and support decision-making.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
* Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting experience within medium to large organizations.
* Prior experience in the A/E/C industry highly preferred.
* 2+ years of leadership and team management experience.
* Familiarity with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and experience supporting overhead audits.
* Strong understanding of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance requirements.
* Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
