EO/AA This position develops and implements art therapy programs and ensures safe and appropriate therapeutic services are provided to the patient. Responsibilities required of incumbent include, but are not limited to, developing and presenting treatment methods that will be appropriate and will contribute to the treatment of the patient, and adapting intervention to meet individual needs while conducting intervention in a group format. Responsibilities: * Use art therapy interventions to treat patients according to individualized treatment plan. * Provides safe and appropriate specialized programs. * Assesses patients and establishes treatment goals. * Develops and implements treatment programs to meet the goals of treatment services and patient needs. * Evaluates therapy results and modifies treatment plans accordingly. * Develops discharge plans in collaboration with patient, family and treatment team members. * Participates as an active member of the treatment team. * Participates in the department and service delivery unit's quality improvement programs. * Evaluates and assists in procurement of needed resources. * May assist in orientation, supervision and professional development of new staff and art therapy interns. * Program changes are recommended to the Program Director and/or the Manager of Expressive Therapies and implemented only after obtaining proper authorization and/or consent from supervisors. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities * Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above. * Ability to articulate the purpose, goals, function, and value of art therapy to patients, families, and interdisciplinary treatment team. * Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills. * Ability to provide care appropriate to the population served. * Ability to provide input on the individualized treatment goals and objectives as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team. * Ability to implement the proper treatment interventions for individual patients based on assessed needs and limitations. The incumbent communicates with patients and families regarding the program structure and treatment plan and monitors the patient's progress making modifications to services as needed. The incumbent is required to abide by established hospital policies and procedures. * In performing daily work responsibilities with patients, the incumbent must constantly monitor safety and be able to foresee problems before they become a crisis. It may be required to address and resolve crisis situations involving patients. * Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures. Qualifications: QualificationsRequired * A master's degree in art therapy from a program approved by the Education Committee of the American Art Therapy Association or accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). * Art therapist registration (ATR) by the Art Therapy Credentials Board within three years of full time employment. Licenses Required * Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire. * Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.
