				Overview:

ARC Animal Aides are exposed to every aspect of the Animal Resources Core operation. They will assist ARC management with cage wash, husbandry, clinical care, inventory, equipment transportation, pest control/monitoring and other duties deemed fit by the department leadership. Workers will gain experience working with a diverse species population i.e., zebrafish, rabbits, mice, rats, chinchillas, small ruminants, swine, and NHPs. Availability to work weekends and holidays is required.

Responsibilities:

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

* Ability to comprehend standard operating procedures/guidelines to ensure personnel safety and biosecurity while working in the vivarium. Wear stipulated personal protective equipment. 
* Maintain all relevant training and certifications as required by the institution. Reading, understanding, and executing tasks as per Institutional Standard Operating Procedures and Policies 
* Process cages and accessories using mechanical washers and autoclaves. Ensure proper sanitation/sterilization using temperature sensitive indicators and promptly report failures to supervisory staff and facility engineers. 
* Operates and / or uses rack washer(s) and autoclaves to sanitize and / or sterilize animal cages, racks, and other related equipment. 
* Deliver cages and cage accessories from/to animal holding areas. Maintain inventory in the clean/sterile side of cage wash, animal feed rooms and any other as deemed necessary by the supervisor. 
* Performs preventive maintenance on washers, autoclaves, racks, automatic watering system and other caging equipment.
* Providing daily care and oversight to animals, primarily rodents, that are essential to support research goals of the Abigail Wexner Research Institute
* Observing animals daily to assess health status of animals and ensuring there is an adequate supply of feed, water, and clean bedding or housing. This includes performing cage change of animal enclosures on routine basis 
* Operate, perform preventative maintenance and troubleshoot recirculating zebrafish life support system and racks. Inform vendors and in-house engineers of all electrical, mechanical, plumbing and facility related issues that impacts the productivity and health of the zebrafish colony.
* Conduct periodic water quality checking to ensure the health of the fish colony. 
* Communicate health status of the colony to the principal investigator and veterinary staff. 
* Feed fish colony with the appropriate type and quantity of feed for the different life stages. Ensure adequate supply of quality feed on a daily basis for adult fish and hatcheries 
* Remains familiar with vivarium emergency response procedures. 
* All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED 

* High school graduate or equivalent. 
* Animal experience is desired. 
* Maintains a working knowledge of applicable institutional and ARC policies and procedures.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

Note frequency as Constantly (67-100%), Frequently (34-66%) and Occasionally (0-33%) for each requirement. Also note any lifting requirements with pound limit. Kneeling / reaching - Constantly Finger dexterity - Constantly Talking / hearing / seeing - Constantly Lifting/pushing/pulling- Frequently
