Overview:
This Position is Physically Located in Iraq, Balad
The Aircraft Arresting System Technician (AAST) conducts routine Inspections and provides Operations, Maintenance, and Repair (OM&R) of aircraft barriers. The AAST team are a key part of the airfield operations and public works functional service areas and will report all findings which may impact flight operations and the overall operations of the airfield.
Responsibilities:
This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company.
* Assists in the maintenance of Aircraft Arresting Systems (AAS) including, but not limited to electrical, hydraulic, rewind, and pneumatic systems, and other electronic components in accordance with manufactures and USAF instructions and recommendations.
* Assists in the installation, positioning, rewinding, inspection, and pretensions of aircraft arresting barrier systems.
* Utilizes precision test equipment, troubleshoot malfunctions, and inspects parts for excessive wear and other conditions of the aircraft arresting barrier systems.
* Records meter readings, wear and alignment measurements, fuel consumption, and other data in performance logs.
* Provides information for reports and makes recommendations to the senior manager of airfield operations as it pertains to the operation, maintenance, repair, and/or replacement of the AAS as required.
* Consistently seeks out methods to employ Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) in support of program and project specific Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
* Assists in the practice of FOD detection, removal, and prevention.
* Effectively communicates with internal and external customers and clients as it pertains to aircraft barrier maintenance operations and services.
* Perform other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
* QUALIFICATIONS
* 3-5 years of direct working experience performing OM&R of AAS, including, but not limited to the BAK12, MAAS, BAK 14, MA-1A, E-5, BAK-15, textile brake, and soft ground U.S. Air Force Aircraft Arresting Systems.
* PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
* Prior USAF experience working as a 3E072 - Electrical Power Production Supervisor and 3E052 - Electrical Power Production Specialist.
* Working knowledge of both FAA, ICAO, and DOD policies, procedures, and regulations governing the operations, maintenance, repair, and decommissioning of AAS.
* REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
* Ability to pass basic physical and background checks sufficient for duty in an overseas contingency/military environment.
* Working Conditions:
* Must be capable of working in an extreme weather condition with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
* Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, dry, dusty, desert environment with average temperatures of 30 degrees in the winter and 130 degrees in the summer months).
* Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.
* Physical Requirements:
* Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
* Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.
* Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
