				Overview:

The Staff Occupational Therapist is responsible for evaluating the developmental and functional status of pediatric and select adult patients, administering treatment, fabricating or recommending adaptive equipment and splints; documenting evaluation results and patient progress; and providing patient and family education. Demonstrates competence defined (*) in Staff Occupational Therapist responsibilities in providing age-appropriate care and services to patients from the age of birth to 21 years, and selected adult patients.

Responsibilities:

The Staff Occupational Therapists supports, communicates, implements and enforces the philosophy, mission, values, standards, policies and procedures of Nationwide Children's Hospital.

* * Evaluates patients with varied diagnoses to determine developmental and/or functional status using standardized measures or clinical observations; identifies patient's strengths and deficits; establishes long and short term goals; and develops an individualized treatment plan incorporating patient and family needs. 
* * Administers therapeutic treatment to patients with developmental delay or functional deficits to provide optimal development, function, and independence; utilizes developmental activities and other treatment techniques to meet each patient's specific needs and achieve therapy goals; observes progress and/or changes in patient's condition and modifies treatment plan accordingly.
* * Fabricates, recommends or provides adaptive equipment, splints or casts to maintain functional body joint positions, restrict muscle contractures, prevent deformities, and improve function or mobility. Fits patient and instructs patient and family on use of item. 
* * Educates parents on their child's treatment goals and therapy plan; instructs patients and parents on therapeutic activities to follow while in hospital or at home; documents instruction and evaluates ongoing compliance and understanding.
* *Documents patients evaluation results, objective status, progress towards goals, treatment plan, and recommendations in compliance with documentation requirements of the hospital and accrediting associations; utilizes appropriate computerized or standardized documentation methods, as applicable to caseload.
* Communicates patien's status and collaborates with physicians, third-party payors, and relevant healthcare providers.
* Maintains the administrative functions of individual caseload, including scheduling patients for treatment, entering daily patient charges, and submitting timely documentation to appropriate parties. 
* *Recommends and secures patient referrals to community agencies to ensure patient continues to receive needed and appropriate services after discharge.
* Attends continuing education programs and participates in departmental in-service training programs to enhance professional development. 
* Conducts formal and informal Occupational Therapy educational programs for hospital staff, students and community. Delegates to students from accredited programs, certified occupational therapist assistants (COTA), and unlicensed personnel, supervising care provided.
*  Adheres to departmental productivity standards.
*  Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

* Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy;  registered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy; licensed by the State of Ohio.
* One year occupational therapy work experience in a pediatric setting preferred or clinical affiliation in area of pediatrics.
* CPR certification must be received no later than 60 days post hire or 60 days post expiration.
