Overview: The Dance Instructor provides recreational/educational/arts workshops and activities for young people to learn new skills; as well as an avenue for self-development and expression Reports to: PROGRAM DIRECTOR, MS 15 Location: 120 E. 184th Street, Bronx New York 10468 Hours: Up to 10 Hours/Week; Non-Exempt (Sept. - June) Salary: $19/hr - $25/hr Major Duties: * Design, plan and conduct activities and workshops in Modern, Jazz, Ballet, and Hip Hop Dance * Submit lesson/activity plans in advance. * Conduct activities enriched with literacy and math skills whenever possible. * Plan and implement a culminating event or project. * Complete daily progress reports. * Responsible for the setup, operation and clean up of activities and the organization, inventory and storing of relevant supplies and equipment. * Attend all staff meetings and staff development training sessions, as specified. * Guide program participants in examining choices, following directions and becoming involved in program activities. * Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: * High School Diploma required. Bachelors preferred. * Experience with youth preferred. * Must have experience or skill in Modern, Jazz, Ballet, Tap, Step or Hip Hop Dance * Must be able to engage young people and set structure and limits in a group setting. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based and/or youth development perspective. Responsibilities: MAJOR DUTIES: * Recruit participants through Café Jam * Responsible to maintain a minimum of 10 students in drama activity/ day * Facilitate two drama classes per week that follow a social group work model * Pre-planning of activity; activities are to provide students with structure, purposeful use of activity and self, including beginning and ending rituals. * Develop boxing curriculum based on students' interest. Curriculum should promote creativity, self-expression, opportunity for mastery, and emotional and professional growth. * Develop several performances for two culminating events, mid-year and end of the year, showcasing students work. * Attend and participate in staff meetings. * Facilitate purposeful activities in community hour and participate on other staff lead activities as part of the staff team * Foster a youth development, strength's based environment, fostering a sense of belonging, safety, and community to participants. * Engage and facilitate group conversations, tracking and supporting students' academic success. * Collaborate with the Good Shepherds Day Program. * Document classes/ workshop planning as required. * Perform other duties as assigned.
